Im amazed Shields played this year...

What a career he had, shame to see him go, but it's time. I hope the pain he has to live with the rest of his life isnt too bad.

Sounds like he's just talking on a shitty cell phone.

Said he'll decide whether he's going to come back once they choose a head coach.

Doesn't necessarily want to be part of a rebuilding effort, but was pretty non-commital otherwise.

Sounds like he's waiting to see how his body recovers.

Just asked if there is a day he will decide by

Said the organization hasn't given him a deadline

Implied that he would let them know by the draft so they can decide what they need to do

no need to rebuild the offense

put black in for shields and add another receiver and move on.

coaching and defense is where the work in needed.

isnt welborne a guard?? He will fill in fine..... then we have Sampson, jordan Black and Brett Williams fighting for the other tackle position.... the o line next year will be great...

I want Shields to play forever, but if he retires I think your right they have options. Even Brett Williams looked good at right guard during the pre-season. The only one they can't replace is Roaf.

I'm glad Waters is relatively young.

You don't lose a pro bowler like Roaf or Shields and not take a major step back. This year was proof positive that the offense is not the same withour Roaf. I don't care who the replacement is/was Welbourne, Black, Sampson, Williams, [insert name of other great hope].

The one difference is Welbourne played right tackle the last few games better than it has been played for a few years. Shields is hard to replace, but his play has dropped. Roaf is the only one in my mind that is critical between the two.
