Can't show Chiefs in St. Louis!!!!! WTF?????

I'm a Chiefs fan in St. Louis. Get this -- the local affiliates always, always, always show two of the 3:00 games, one on FOX (Channel 5), and one on CBS (Channel 4). So I'm watching the end of the Indy game, then they switch over to the end of the Steelers game, because the Chiefs game isn't supposed to start until 3:15. All the while, they're promising that the Chiefs game is coming up next! Then they switch to paid programming! WTF? So I called the local CBS affiliate, KMOV, and asked what was going on. Apparently, there is some sort of legal agreement between the rival networks that if one network is showing the Rams, the other network CANNOT show an in-state rival like the Chiefs at the same time. Does that make a lick of sense to anybody? I can understand if the same network is carrying both games, that the Rams would get the nod for broadcast in this area, as is sometimes the case. But when they're being carried by two different networks, I can see no good reason why they can't show both games!

How long have you been a Chiefs fan? Or lived in St. Louis? They almost always do this. Like last week, when the Rams played an early game.

Chiefs fan nearly 20 years, St. Louis resident about 4 1/2. I've seen them do this several times when both games are on at the same time and broadcast by the same network. I have no problem with that. But this is the first time I've seen them do it when the games are broadcast by different networks. That's what doesn't make sense. The woman I spoke to at KMOV said it's a new thing, that they just struck the agreement during this past offseason. I'm pretty sure I remember at least one Sunday last year when I was able to just flip back and forth between both games (I'm a Rams fan, too, just not as much as the Chiefs).

Sadly, that's one disadvantage of having digital cable instead of satellite. I tried satellite for awhile, but the signal kept going out every time it got even a little bit cloudy, so I gave it up. Oh well, I guess it's another week of following it on ESPN Gamecast.

Actually if you think about it in the sense that the NFL is a business, the local franchise and their local TV partner wouldn't want to split the potential NFL revenue with another station and team. If the local STL advertisers want to reach the local NFL viewing audience, they must spend the money with the Rams affiliate.

It makes perfect sense when you look at it from the Rams owner's perspective and the NFL in general. I'm betting there are a few Rams fans living in KC who are similarly upset, but the rule benefits the Chiefs when the situation is reversed.

Sorry that it sucks for you as a fan though! Not to rub it in, but I'm in Tucson and I'm watching the Chiefs/Denver game.

Probably true. I live in a townhouse in Hazelwood, and we're not allowed to mount dishes on the roof itself, so it had to be mounted on the balcony. They told me that if they could have mounted it on the roof, it could have been aimed to catch two satellites, which is the optimum reception, but the roof overhang made it possible to only get one of the satellites. That's probably why the problems.
