Chiefs' Sutton looking for defense to elevate its game

Quote:
Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton was asked about the play of Anthony Hitchens and Reggie Ragland on Thursday October 18, 2018, and instead of singling out the two players, said that everyone has to elevate their game.

Bob Sutton gets alot of shit, but honestly the D has been pretty good at not letting other teams score (this year being the exception).

2012(the year prior to Sutton)- 25th in ppg allowed
2013(Sutton's first year) - 7th
2014 - 2
2015 - 1
2016 - 6
2017 - 15

Ppg is really the only stat that matters. This year he's had injury after injury. People put too much worth into coordinators. No ****ing coach is going to make this no talent D good. We just always have to have a scape goat.

They have a huge amount of money invested in two players that are either under performing or always injured. I love Berry but he's going to miss half of his career. Good or not if he's always going to be on the sidelines he's not helping the team. Just trying up salary cap they could use on a player maybe not as good but good enough and reliable.

Missing those Alex 19 minute FG drives is hurting ole Werthers. Arena ball scoring too fast.

Currently 26th for 2018 so he's gotten worse every year for the last 4 years .**** bob sutton and his strategy of playing Dee Ford and Justin Houston as cornerbacks. He's a ****ing old senile piece of shit. He should go coach for Gruden and finish that franchise off. I'd fire his ass now to give us a head start for next season. and WTF are they doing to get Berry ready ,just waiting to see if the bone spur suddenly goes away. They should have got that shit done 6 weeks ago.

If we had ANY semblance of a defense we'd be SB contenders this year but it ain't gonna happen. This year we'll be 12-4 and lose in the playoffs to the steelers because they'll have Bell back and we'll still have Sutton and Justin Houston playing corner.

They need to start rolling the dice a little every now and then with some aggressive schemes. If it looks like the other team is having their way with our defense and they are going to score anyway, take some chances and try to make something happen. If they score, well, they were going to do that anyway, at least we get the ball back and keep them from eating all the clock.

Beef...love ya dude...but do you watch the ****ing games!?

They get burned when they get aggressive.

Sutton went AFTER Brady...he sent several blitzes + mixed coverages...he sent zone blitzes, fire blitzes, house blitzes, zero blitzes, DB blitzes, LB blitzes..he played cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, and quarters coverages...he rushed 3, he rushed 4, he rushed 5, he rushed 6... he dropped 2 high safeties, he dropped 1 high safety...he played soft zone, he played man zone...

Sutton was literally trying to find something these guys can do.

The guys don't tackle, they don't cover, and they don't make the plays...that being said, it really seems like this defense is better at coverage than it is at being aggressive or blitzing. They get burned hard when they blitz. No guarantee the blitzer will make the tackle even if they get there (see : Murray vs Rapenbooger and Speaks vs the New England Pederast last week.)

They get gashed when they don't blitz too. Ragland's best play of the night was on a run blitz. They suck. They get burned. Might as well rip off the bandaid and get the goddamn ball back instead of an excruciating 8 minute drive that keeps our offense on the sideline. Hope they can make a couple of plays that turn the momentum a couple of times.

Score as much and as often as we can and trust that our offense can do that better than the other team can. They will make a mistake. They will bog down on a drive here and there. Keep the foot on the gas and dare them to keep up. Keep the defense fresher because they get the **** off the field so they have the energy to make some plays. If nothing else get the damn linebackers playing downhill, because they suck out loud doing the shit they are doing now.

So, you're the defense coordinator. What do you do to give this defense a chance?

Tell them to just fly around in random directions and confuse the offense. Can't be any worse.

They should shock the world and practice, and hopefully someday master, the long forgotten and ancient art of tackling. This alone will confuse the **** out of the opposition, sending them into disarray.

play a 4-4-8 until we get about 5 penalties. Hey it's guaranteed to slow them down.

Plead with Reid and Veach to get players who can cover and tackle before the trade deadline.
