Fallout: New Vegas
Releases tomorrow (10/19). Here's an early review/preview.
Ok OK – I’ve been asked for some thoughts on the game so far. Here we go. I’m still very early into the game (only about 12hrs – I’ve accomplished NOTHING!) but I’m back in Wasteland bliss. The enviroments still look as bleak, gritty and dirty as always (especially taking place in the Mojave Desert) yet still beautiful. I really don’t want to say too much to anyone but I will say that as of this moment, the player assumes the role of a Courier who gets shot and left for dead for one reason or another and you set out to find out who shot you and why. For anyone wondering if this game is as big as Fallout 3, I can say with 100% certainty that it is…maybe even bigger. The gameplay is exactly the way it was before with some tweaks. One major change is the ability to play through “Hardcore Mode” which is offered once the user creates the player. Hardcore mode is crazy. Now Ammo carries weight, your player must stay hydrated, fed and rested otherwise, he/she will die or suffer serious consequences. I opted to play normally for my first kick at the can. Another interesting change is the use of factions. Scattered throughout the Mojave Wasteland are factions of people whe the player can align themselves with or against. This will seriously impact where you can and can’t go without fear for retribution by said faction as well as the options and quests that open or close on you. Further to that, each faction has their own uniquie look and clothing style. This also affects how different factions react to your pressence. So now with this knowledge, you’ll have to really pick and choose your fights and what armor/outfits you keep handy because they do carry weight as any armor will. There are even a slew of different creatures and enemies to encounter and fight in the wastelands though I’m sure I haven’t seen all of them yet. All in all Obsidian and Bethesda have done an amazing job. This is a sequel truely worthy of the Fallout brand. Expect a full review sometime on Tuesday. With only 2 more days to wait, I’m sure some of you are losing sleep with anticipation but rest well – You’ll need it for the long hours you’re sure to spend on this title. http://feedyourconsole.com/2010/10/f...t-impressions/ Last edited by Skyy God; 10-18-2010 at 02:40 PM.. |

GC - could you stop posting those huge-ass jpgs? Slows load time down considerably on the page. Maybe size them down and reduce quality?

Alright I've never played Fallout before, now I'm wondering if I should get this or Black Ops. Since I've never played Fallout I suppose I could get Black Ops and Fallout 3 on the cheap. Or should I just go for the one?

I would get Fallout 3 and Black Ops personally. By the time you get done with both of those games New Vegas will be much cheaper and most of the bugs will be fixed.

Just got the a robot and figured that Boone, ED-E, and I could surely get rid of the deathclaws in Sloan...... nope.
What ammo works against these guys? In FO 3 you could cripple their legs but I can't even do that in this game. |

What level are you? I'm guessing you need to be around at least a 20 before you even stand a chance. Also your Gun level probably matters.

Just got the alien blaster and 2 other mega alien weapons worth over 2k caps.. The wild wasteland perk is definitely worth it if you know where the random encounters are.
Level 11 and 14 hours in without a freeze or bug. I am having some serious load times though. I'll dump the hds cache and check it out tomorrow.

I think right now I'm at level 17 and haven't been back there since I was level 13 or 14. I just got a hunting rifle that does twice as much damage as my Cowboy Repeater and got a perk that added 15 points to my gun skill so I'm fixin' to go pay those Deathclaws a visit shortly.

So, I lost Rex days ago in New Vegas while I was doing the casino missions. I had checked everywhere I thought he could be. I gave it up for a lost cause and figured I wouldn't be doing his quest. So I went to vault 22 to fulfill a quest at McCarran, and once I'm about halfway in, I ride the elevator and Rex appears. wtf...

Whatever you do, DO NOT GO INTO THE TOPS CASINO OR POTENTIALLY ANY OTHER CASINO WITH BOONE. YOU WILL RENDER HIM USELESS.

Deathclaws are easy as cake at with a hunting rifle with extended mags, a sniper scope, level 74 gun skill, and Boone.
