MVP Baseball 2004
I just finished my first season of MVP baseball 2004... as the Royals, of course. Thought I'd let everyone know how the boys in blue did...
The Royals won the division, beating out the White Sox with a 104-58 record... the Sox pulled a midseason trade for Nomar (sending Ordonez to the Red Sox) but it wasn't enough for them to keep up with the young, hungry Royals. (the Twins were devestated by a season-ending injury to Johan Santana) Juan Gonzalez stayed healthy all season (160 games played!) and won the AL MVP, hitting a whopping 68 HRs and driving in 147 to carry the offense. Darell May and Jeremy Affeldt anchored the staff; May won 21 games, and Affeldt went an astounding 19-1. Beat the Red Sox in the division series, knocked off the Angels in the ALCS, lost to the Cubs in the Series... In the offseason, harsh reality set in; I didn't have the money(even after the payroll increase i got for going to the series) for Gonzalez and Beltran, so I signed Beltran... Stairs walked, too. I decided to wait on resigning Darrell May, which turned out to be a good thing - with the money I would have tied up on him, I was able to sign Mark Prior in free agency. I'm looking forward to 2005! All this just made me realize how much a Royals division championship would mean to me... |

How is the actual game and gameplay? I've been wanting to rent it but it's obviously been in high demand at Blockbuster and I haven't been able to get it yet...

I played the season at All-Star but simmed/managed a large part of it...
although with Juan Gone, all you need to hit it out against a righty is a breaking ball middle-in... unfortunately for me, he signed with the hated Yankees in the offseason, giving them a lineup of: Jeter, A-Rod, Giambi, Sheffield, Juan Gone, Posada and Matsui... damn Yanks. It's a great game. Graphics, gameplay, everything. The manager mode gives you a nice break from regular boring simulation where you have 0 control over the game.

My first season ended just a while ago.
During the middle of the season, I traded Desi Relaford for Luis Rivas. Sweeney and Gonzalez are monsters. Beltran won MVP. We finished 1st place in the AL Central but lost to the Red Sox in the first round of the playoffs. In the off-season, many changes were made. Beltran left. Santiago gone. Randa gone. Guiel gone. Hernadez gone. Rivas gone. We picked up Mike Barrett C, Henry Mateo 3B, Jiminez (sp?) at 2B, Urbina RP, a young rook P from the yanks that is doing amazing for me now, and Lieber P. And to fill in Beltran's place, the Royals signed rookie phenom Jenson CF. Excellent game. |

Just bought it yesterday..... needed something to play until Splinter Cell 2 comes out for PS2, and the '05 version of NCAA Football comes out.
I'm really impressed with it.... I haven't played an MLB game in a few years (EA Sports, but it was Triple Play, IIRC), so I'm not that good. I played my first game in All Star mode and got stomped.... every mistake pitch ended up in the fountains. Played a few games on Pro, and now I'm MUCH better at pitching. I've never liked simulating games, and I can get all the way through an NHL season, or obviously a much shorter NCAA or NFL season without having to...... but I might have to if I want to get through a season without getting bored with it. What's up with the green seats at the K?? I've always loved the little things in EA games, but they messed that one up.
