Godzilla stomping back to theaters via Legendary

Well, well, well ... look who's getting back in fighting shape.

Everyone's favorite gigantic, havoc-wreaking lizard, Godzilla, is on his way back to the big screen via Legendary Pictures, which has acquired the rights to develop and produce a new feature based on the iconic Toho Co. character. Warner Bros. will co-produce, co-finance and distribute through its deal with Legendary, and Toho will roll out the film in Japan.

Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Brian Rogers are also producing; Yoshimitsu Banno, Kenji Okuhira and Doug Davison will be executive producers on the project.

The last major Godzilla outing, an American, New York-set version from Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, grossed $376 million worldwide in 1998 despite fielding equally major criticism. Toho quickly produced "Godzilla 2000," in which the big beast took on an evil UFO, the following year.

But the Godzilla franchise juggernaut has survived decades of permutations (he first appeared in 1954), dozens of films, books, video games and merchandising tie-ins and seems perpetually ready to rear up again for new audiences.

The new film is shooting for a 2012 release.

"Godzilla is one of the world's most powerful pop culture icons, and we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based on this long-loved Toho franchise," said Thomas Tull, chairman and CEO of Legendary. "Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop culturally relevant for as long as it has."

Added Jeff Robinov, president of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, "Godzilla is emblematic of the kind of branded, event films for which Warner Bros. and our partners at Legendary are best known."

The two companies have partnered on such global properties as "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight," "Superman Returns" and "The Hangover," which have grossed more than $2 billion worldwide. Together, they have a remake of "Clash of the Titans" stomping into theaters Friday.

It made $93 million this weekend. Deadline is reporting that the studio confirmed to them that there will be a sequel.

overall I thought the movie was very well done. I was expecting a bit more military fighting both circa the old godzilla movies, but still very well done. Its always funny how off the aim is when they are shooting missiles.... happens in every godzilla movie lol.

In most cases, Godzilla's pretty indifferent toward humanity. He barely notices us. He just sees a threat (seems like to his territory, really), takes care of business, and goes back into hibernation.

Godzilla 2014 Special End Credits Scene Shown In Selected Asian Countries? Huge Reveal Showing Another Toho Kaiju To Face The King Of The Monsters Rumored!

There is a Godzilla 2014 end credits scene but according to reports, it was only shown on selected Asian countries. What does the scene show?

First things first, when the Godzilla 2014 movie was being made, Legendary pictures only trademarked Godzilla as the Kaiju to appear in the movie and that the other Kaiju's to appear in the movie are original creations for the movie however when the production of the movie went along there have been reports in the in the sequel for Godzilla 2014, Legendary Pictures trademarked one Kaiju from the Godzilla mythos and that Kaiju is mothra!

This Mothra tease has been given credence due to fact that almost every time the production crew was asked as to who would they like to see fight their version of Godzilla, they would always say Mothra.

In the Godzilla 2014 end credits scene that was shown on selected asian countries it was reported by JapNation AniManga that we get to see Mothra commanding an army of MUTO's and Mothra would then show its full glory by flying up and generating a hurricane.

So should we see it in 3D or no 3D? I ask not because of the cost but we have to drive 40 miles one way to see it in 3D or see it locally at our small screen hometown theater.

I saw it in IMAX 3D.

I'd have been fine without the 3D, honestly. But the IMAX is really cool. Gives you a sense of just how huge these things are. Awe inspiring. For a movie like this, the bigger the screen, the better. (Not to mention you want the best sound you can get.)

I liked it a lot.

The acting was good, effects amazing, and the slow burn lead to an intense final showdown.

The scene where Godzilla confronted the female MUTO at the nest and you get the shot of him shrouded in dust while the lightning struck and the initial atomic breath shot were both so epic. Jizz worthy.

I'm not sure how I feel about casting Godzilla as some sort of deity "force of nature" sent to restore balance but I suppose it's better than an alien or mutated dinosaur.

I'll also say the effect of having him tire after using the atomic breath was cool. He seemed wiped out after he used it at first (although the tail smash to kill the male MUTO was awesome) and obviously ptfo after using it the second time.

I got goosebumps when I first saw his spikes start to light up. So cool.

My ?? as well.our theatre is showing both but I've never seen a 3D and I don't want to have to fight with glasses for two hours if it really isn't all that.

The 3D is not a big deal. You'd be fine without it. A big screen and awesome sound system will add to the enjoyment though. (way more than the 3D)
