****Official 2014 STL Cardinals thread ****

2011 WS Championship
2012 one win from another WS
2013 two wins from another WS title
2014?
  • This is a franchise that has made the postseason 10 times in the last 14 seasons.
  • Reached three World Series in the last decade, and won as many championships (two) the past eight seasons as it did from 1965 to 2005.
  • Our new Manager has more post season experience than any other manager in baseball, except the Giants manager.
  • Three million attendance? Take it to the bank.
  • 60 post season wins since 2004. 20+ wins more than any other team.
  • Only one of the last 14 seasons has been a losing one.

Why does Price keep getting brought up? We don't need a starter. We already have 4 with ERAs under 3.20.

Obviously Waino/Price/Wacha would be hard to beat in the playoffs. Thats the reason. I think its more of a national writer thing than those writers that follow the Cardinals closely.

Onley on ESPN insider just said yesterday that the Cardinals and Rays make sense as trading pardners.

The Rays fans down here think they can get OT and Miller in the deal plus another AA pitcher.

JFC, Onley thinks it will only happen if the Cardinals want and can sign Price long term.

Jeter is just plain bad at this point defensively. It's hilarious that they have one of the best defensive shortstops in the league in Ryan and he is stuck playing garbage innings at 1st because Mr. Legend won't be moved out of his spot.

Price is actually pitching better this year than he ever has. He's striking out more batters per nine innings and walking fewer than he ever has, he's just been horrendously unlucky on both BABIP and HRs. You can't look at raw numbers and make assumptions, especially in a sample size of like 10 starts.

His four-seamer velocity is the same as it was last year, but he took one MPH off his two-seamer, so it looks like his velocity has dropped when it really hasn't.

He would likely dominate in the NL. That said, trading Miller and OT when James Shields went for a prospect like Taveras alone is just asinine, and that doesn't take into account the $20 million per he would command in an extension.

I wouldn't trade Miller for Price straight up, let alone all this other nonsense.

Found this article interesting. It discusses Holiday's drop in power the last few seasons and some other interesting tidbits.

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/colum...329617ad1.html

1 of them was his defensive improvement.

1a. Holliday has told Derrick Goold and Dan McLaughlin that his his legs are feeling better this season than they have in a while, and that's reflected in his improvement defensively in left field. According to John Dewan's plus-minus Fielding Bible rating, Holliday is a plus 6 in left field this season. And in the Bill James stat Defensive Runs Saved, Holliday has saved two runs with his defense, which ranks 12th among MLB left fielders. It's early, yes. And Holliday rarely looks graceful out there. But he's been doing a good job defensively.

The Miller and OT was fans saying what they want in return for Price. They are figuring that if they got Meyers for Shields and Price is way better than Shields, they should get more than one top prospect. Most are thinking it will be the cardinals or the Orioles that end up with Price.

I've told them that the Cardinals are not as dumb as the Royals. We have outfield prospects to give up easily without harm. But, I don't want to give up Miller/Martinez level pitching for a rental. No matter how good the rental is on the mound.

Now they want to take Kelly and Piscotty I won't fly off the handle. What do I know anyway. I was against the Rasmus trade. Getting a bunch of middle relief wanna be pitchers and a journeyman SP for a 5 tool player? What was Mo thinking? Selling low because Rasmus and Larussa feud is now in the papers??? kind of worked out though.

4 runs later and still no one up and throwing. Probably because everyone was used so much last night. Oh wait. Good job, dumb****.

Going to see the Cards vs. the Jays next Sunday. Obviously I don't get many opportunities to see the RedBirds so I'm pretty stoked.

Too bad the Cards are playing AL rules, as it will hurt your chances somewhat since dumb **** Matheny can't double switch a significantly inferior player into the lineup.
