It's probably not a staph infection, because they said it was unrelated to his knee injury, and staph is pretty common in surgeries nowadays.
Who knows?? He could have fucking mono for God's sake.

This dashes any hopes that the Colts run defense is going to improve. And if you can't stop the run, you won't win many (or more likely none) playoff games.

I bet he's got one of those big river worms where it travels down your body and you have to pull it out of your toe an inch at a time every day and carry around a stick that has the part that's come out already wrapped around it.

Sources: Shelved Colts DT Simon has polyarthritis
ESPN.com news services Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Corey Simon has been diagnosed as likely having polyarthritis, a condition that has now shelved him for the 2006 season and will enable the team to not pay his $2.5 million base salary, sources have told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Simon was placed on the non-football injury-illness list on Thursday by the Colts, who cited federal privacy laws for not disclosing the specific nature of the illness. Simon and the team were informed that he likely has polyarthritis after undergoing tests by specialists from the Mayo Clinic who cannot attribute the condition to a football-related injury, such as the arthroscopic knee surgery he had in August, the sources contend. An NFL Players Association official told Mortensen the union is "assuming" that the team will not pay Simon's salary this season and will file a grievance on the player's behalf if the team chooses that course of action. "There's no other reason to put [Simon] on the non-football illness list if your intent was to pay him," said a union source. Polyarthritis causes inflammation and affects multiple joints. It is treated by prescription medicine to relieve the inflammation. The complexities and uncertainty of the disease prompted the Colts' decision, sources said. Simon already has collected $13 million in bonus money from the five-year, $30 million contract he signed with the Colts last year as a free agent. The former first-round draft pick was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the 2005 season. Simon's inactivity during the offseason raised concerns within the organization. A source close to Simon said the player appealed to team president Bill Polian to delay the move Thursday for at least another week. The source said Polian explained to Simon that the team had stretched itself thin with other injuries and need space on the 53-man roster. The Colts believe that the uncertainty of Simon's current condition combined with his inactivity for the past eight months would not allow him to play football this season, sources said. The team also consulted its own lawyers for advice on its action. |
