Time for another tournament: favorite movie scenes.

Edit: The Tournament Is Now Underway and no more nominations will be accepted after Post 498. Look for the SceneItAll Tournament Threads.

I saw two movies today that featured iconic scenes: Big, with the piano dancing scene, and Risky Business, with the underwear dance.

It got me wondering about my favorite movie scenes, and I thought it would be a good tournament topic. So this is the nomination thread. Tell me your favorite movie scenes.

The rules:

1. A scene is generally defined as a segment in a particular place and time, continuous in presentation.

2. A scene should be no more than about three minutes in length.

3. I debated on what adjective to use. Most memorable scene? Best scene? I ended up landing on "favorite scene", because that lets you select based on your own feelings.

4. Probably no porn scenes since they would automatically win.

5. We're talking scenes, not lines. So your nomination needs to be at least one minute long unless you can argue that it's a full standalone scene that's shorter.

I'll likely do this as a brutal one-on-one single elimination tournament since I expect to get a lot of nominations. However, I could change this once I see what we have lined up.

I'll start by nominating the following:

- the piano dancing scene in Big

- the underwear dance in Risky Business (sorry about the ad - starting at 0:32 in this clip)

- the scene staring into the Seurat painting in Ferris Bueller (from 0:53 to the end of this clip, though they cut it off a little too soon)

- the Ferris Bueller parking attendants flying in the Ferrari

- Forrest Gump deciding to stop running (5:08 to 6:37 in this clip)

The classic scene from True Grit.

There is another John Wayne scene that I want to add but, Youtube doen't seem to have it. The fight/death scene from The Cowboys with Bruce Dern.

This is my favorite John Wayne movie & scene in Big Jake. True Grit is good too.

Big Jake is in my top ten of John Wayne films. Actually used to have a blue healer that I named Jake after that role.

How sad is it that every time I see that clip from True Grit, I can't help but to see the girl in it as John Cusack's Mom from Better Off Dead.

That's an awesome scene.

The answer, by the way (and assuming he's talking about the Rowing Club boathouse), is white, with red brick at the base and blue doors - so red, white, and blue. Heh.

I love Casablanca, but I wouldn't put that scene in my list of top scenes from all movies.

I agree. I had the Baptism scene in mind, but the final scene is also terrific.
