*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

Read the ingredients list. It's good shit. It's also cheap as hell. Cheaper than coffee, so works for me since I've decided to stop drinking bullshit butter coffee.

I think it's often an overused term, but the synergy between DMAA and caffeine was the foundation of the best preworkouts and weight loss pills over the last 5 years.

Don't get me started on DMAA. I went around online purchasing up the rest of the original formula Hyde which has DMAA, yohimbe and a bunch of other junk in it. Once you take DMAA, you realize why the NCAA banned it. Your like a machine.

I used to do that more about 6 or 7 years ago. Added about 30 lbs. of bodyweight, including a notable amount of fat, in a relatively short period of time. At that time, I was lifting 5 days a week, as follows:

Mon Chest and Back- heavy weight, low reps
Tue Legs- heavy weight, low reps
Thu Chest and Back- moderate weight, high reps
Fri Legs- moderate weight, high reps
Sat Shoulders and arms- moderate weight, high reps

I did a lot of drop sets (start with a heavy weight; lift to failure; reduce weight and immediately do more reps). I never did cardio and I ate every two to three hours for a total of 5 or 6 meals a day.

Not that I'm by any means defending Fat Acceptance, but I was wondering the same thing.

My wife did an Isagenix cleanse once. The best part about it was that it made her realize she actually could do intermittent fasting without passing out or whatever imaginary problem she thought she was going to have, so it was money well spent.

My wife isn't doing the cleanse. She does the protein and pre-workout.

I have to LOL at "run as fast as you can on the treadmill" guy. Ummm, it's sunny and beautiful outside, there are school tracks and parks everywhere. Don't get that one.

What's the difference between that guy and anyone on a treadmill/elliptical/stationary bike?

Elliptical I get. Knees can't take the pounding. Bike I get, not everyone has a safe area to ride, like me. I live right on a county highway with no shoulders, no way I'm riding on that road. So, I've got to go somewhere else to ride. Not good if time is limited. But sprints on a treadmill I never understood. I do them from time to time with my son. We just go to the high school near my house.

Sprints could also just be "part" of his overall workout. If I'm at the gym, I'm not going to go back out when I get home to run. I'm just gonna do intervals on the treadmill.
