NFL Trades, thought?

Probably both bad timing and a repost from hell; but I would rather discuss realistic options for us in the near future, just to see what everyone thinks. I was reading that bit on si.com about the players that should be traded and a few of those dudes stuck out to me:

Matt Shaub - as a serious potential starter
TJ Duckett - a big ass tank FB that could pave the way for LJ in the future, plus he's still young enough.
Porter from Oakland - he's wasting away over there and has a hell of alot of talent; God knows we need some starting caliber WR's.

What are the obstacles that may prevent us from getting any of these guys and what do YOU think?

Honeslty, I am not in tune with our cap space, but last I heard we had some room?

I like Shaub as a possible replacement for Trent after he retires, I like Porter because he truly has what it takes to be a starter, and we are not hanging on to Jerry Rice or anyone else that would stop him from coming in and actually playing, along with Gardener (assuming Gardener assumes the #1 position next year)

I watched Duckett bust through people for a few years, when he played at Michigan State; when I lived in Detroit-Metro during that time, and I like him, always have - I was suprised that Atlanta traded him, his asking rpcies can't be too hight right about now, and we need a vet FB.

Anyway, sorry if this has been discussed to death but I see some threads from last week, the week before talking about other dudes, chime in if you want.

Living in an area who's first Chiefs game on TV will be tommorow, I obviously haven't seen alot, as a matter of fact, I got to watch more Chiefs football last winter in Iraq, than right here in the Mid Atlantic.
Anyway, not having seen a whole lot this year, is there anything wrong with Ronnie Cruz that would keep him from developing into a good FB, so that we could concentrate on solidifying the O-line for the future?

Croyle is our QBOTF.

We need a better o-line,thats our weakness. I wouldn't trade any picks that don't adress that issue.

At this point I don't know if Porter is better than Gardner.

Cruz is looking better. He is not the blocker T-Rich was but he is coming around, especially in the passing game. I think we should run him a little bit more as well with Bennet on the shelf for a while.

It takes a few seasons to be the blocker that T-Rich was. That was the loss that surprised me this past of season. The few highlights I've seen of Cruz show him picking up a few yards here and there so I'm hoping he's growing. Looks like a pretty stout fella.

I am guessing they would have kept T-Rich had they known Roaf was going to retire.

$$$$$$$ They thought Roaf was going to play this year and T-Rich was inadvertantly to help fund that. With Roaf retiring they could have easily kept T-Rich and picked up Turley. But hell, we should'uv given him a shot at left tackle anyway.

I fuggin forgot we drafted Croyle, heh - a few beers in me right about now.
I am very uncomfortable with his knee thing, but then again I haven't seen him play in preseason, or practice. All I know is what I have seen, and Shaub looks good and should be starting somewhere. I would have suggested Garrard as a back up here also, but since Damon is doing well, I guess he stays a few years? And I know I am in the minority, but I still say we need a better starting WR lineup instead of simply making do, and don't bring me the best offense in the past, I understand that but things are shifting, yes? We need new hands and I think maybe gardener is a start, if he 'gets it', but seriously, we have got to get a guy in here, not an untested rookie and not a washup. There are too many teams in the NFL bringing in players with experience, and finding success, why the hell can't we do that? Porter had a hell of alot of potential, then they stuck with Jerry, then Porter got the attitude because he was tired of being put aside for the old folks. I see no problems with him, except maybe he is a little rusty.

I think T Rich leaving was part of Herms getting younger. We needed to start some young guys to get them experience before we had to start a bunch of young guys, however Roafs retirement screwed that up as well

Yeah think? I was under the impression that T-Rich went where more money was offered. The guy doesn't have to many years to try to save up for retirement. Kind of like me, but the NFL pays better that the USN and I'm going to have to find a real job.

I still don't understand why we don't run more 2 and 3 tight end sets. Dunn is a great blocker, and it would free Tony up alot more.
