The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

If Albert has any common sense, he will ask Dorsey to go back to the negotiating table and drop the "I'm playing left tackle, or else" schtick.

If KC has 7/year on the table with half guaranteed on a long term deal, he would be wise to take it.

If his back issues pop back up, his dream of a long term deal for any good money is gone.

He will be a 30 year old tackle with attitude problems and health issues and will be put in the "medium risk" group and be paid accordingly...likely a 2-3 year deal for low ball money.

Anybody hear Pioli say on tv that Albert was offered more money last year than people were willing to offer this year? If true, Albert would be an idiot to roll those dice AGAIN with hopes of hitting the lottery.

When you listen to analysts that are in the trenches guys, they hate Martin at LT. Absolutely hate him. Ross Tucker and Tim Ryan have ripped him repeatedly as being someone who is not cut out to handle the blindside of an NFL QB.

KC has nothing on the table for Albert. I'm shocked he's still on this roster, but I doubt he enters camp on it.

I don't know if they are desperate but I've heard that the only reason they tagged him was to eventually trade him after his demands were deemed ridiculous.

McKinnie wold certainly come cheaper. I can't imagine the Dolphins would want Albert over McKinnie, unless they want someone younger.
