The much needed wake-the-****-up slap.

Nobody had @Denver as being a win anyway. It doesn't make the Chiefs any less good for losing @Denver than it does when Denver drops one in KC. Denver and KC are tough places for road reams to play.

With the loss, the Chiefs go to 9-1. However, now it is glaringly obvious just how bad the offense needs improvement, and work, in ALL areas. Playcalling, execution, and decisionmaking.

Andy Reid no longer has the "W" to brush off any criticisms about the offensive performance. This offense is quite honestly, a dumpster fire. When 80% of your passes don't go further than 10 yards past the line of scrimmage, that's a fundamental ****ing problem through either scheme, or lack of ability, or both. No offense that has its sights set on a championship runs such a conservative, low production passing attack.

There were shots downfield in this game, yeah. However, they were the first time all season such consistent shots were taken and clearly it is not something that this Chiefs offense is comfortable with, or particularly good at.

This defense is for real. They held an offense that averages 42 points per game to 27, and gave our offense PLENTY of chances to get the lead in this game, including multiple 3 and outs against Manning and also securing a turnover inside the Denver 20 yard line down by only 3 points.

The offense is the weak link. The conservative bullshit has got to go. Its nice to never turn the football over, but it is NOT nice to never score any points. Alex needs to turn it loose, and if he cant produce, move aside.

No risk, no reward. You need look no further than Alex Smith's passing stats, TD/INT in particular to see that.

Reid needs to take a long look in the mirror as a playcaller. He has not done a good job at all this season. Brad Childress has had great success in calling offense in his career in his time with Minnesota, and Doug Pederson is a former Quarterback. Perhaps it is time to give one of these guys a shot and see if the offense doesn't produce a little more, as they would be hard pressed to do worse with an offense that struggles to put up 17 points.

This was as good a time as any for this reality check to happen. How Andy Reid and Alex Smith respond to this will define what this team will ultimately be this season.
