Mahomes in the locker room after the afcc

A friend in KC texted me yesterday. He was talking with a coach who was in the locker room and said that Mahomes was very vocal in the privacy of the locker room after the game.

He was screaming that "we are not going to keep losing games like this." Apparently, even Reid had to calm him down.

Now, this is all hearsay upon hearsay, but it came from a reliable source. I think that - assuming it is true - this is absolutely part of Sutton going. Clark and Reid know that this franchise is about making the most of Mahomes' prime. While he said everything right in the press conference and microphone, it's clear Mahomes knows the defense allowing opposing QBs to score at will has been the downfall all year.

It's a tough loss, but the start of a fantastic journey. I'm more excited at the end of the year than I ever have been.

This information was relayed to me from the perspective of Mahomes was being very fiery, and very vocal, but not calling out anyone specifically. This was not in poor form, but rather a pretty exceptional display of culture change for a team accustomed to losing.

EDITED.

That entire sequence was a mess. Tyreek with the dumb punt return. Blockers on the return get penalized. Kelce with the bad drop. OL with the false start. Easy field goal for Patriots after Chiefs punt from end zone.

Refreshing if true. That's what a leader does. And I dont blame him for being pissed. All the losses this year saw him watch opposing teams drive down to score the winning TD, from the sidelines. I hope he steps on it all off season, heavens help the poor team we face week 1.

There's a period of time when the locker room is closed to the press just for letting the players wind down and cool off before being bombarded with questions.

If it happened, one would assume it happened during that time and someone happened to hear it or a staff member let it slip.

Matt Derrick said after the Colts game was the loudest he ever heard that part (through closed doors).

He said it was deathly quiet after this game. Although even if he heard something I guess he could be lying to win favor with the team.

But in the case of the Patriots game, he and the offense put 0 points on the board in 1st half. That was a backbreaker for the team. He took that sack that cost them 3 points, which could have been the difference in a tie ball game at the end. I would guess he is just as frustrated with himself as he is with the defense.
How many times at TT was the defense on the field for twice as many plays as the offense?

Mahomes missed Damon Williams on what could've been a TD - just plain overthrew him.

Then took a terrible sack trying to make something happen when should've just bailed on the play and took the 3 points.

Oline issues or not, those two plays are directly on PMII, and instead of the deciding 7 or 3 points that could've been put on the board, they put up zero.

He simply needs to learn how to take what the defense gives him. He was throwing into double coverage trying to force the ball to Hill when he should've been looking for some check downs and Kelce on the seam.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Patrick. As a person, a player, and the face of our franchise.

He can improve, though.

Yes, the sack was horrible mistake. Arguably cost them the game. But there are a bunch of moments like that in the game that arguably cost them the game. And as I said before, Mahomes had plenty of help from his shitty OL and shitty playcalling to put 0 points on the board in that first half.

Tyreek/Kelce/OL arguably cost them the game with the bullshit punt return, badly dropped catch on a perfect throw, and false start that gave the Patriots an easy field goal in the 3rd quarter. Then there's Dee Ford going offsides. There's the defense giving up a soul-crushing 8 minute drive to start the game.

Given the fact the game ended up tied in regulation, you can point to any one of these sequences as a backbreaker. But you could also point to Tom Brady giving them two fluke INT's that saved the Chiefs a 14 point swing. They were fortunate to not get blown out in this game given how terrible the game started. It was looking really bad on both sides of the ball early.

All true.

The shittiest part about it, other than Dee Found On Road Dead not knowing how to line up, was if the refs call an impartial game, the Chiefs would have still won.

Messed up, that.

Hopefully the "lovable loser" mentality has gone out the window. Ya know, a team you have to step over like everyone else has in order to make it to the big dance.

Give 'em hell Patty Cakes!

It’s a bad idea. Tech has had plenty of awful defenses in the last 20 years, but Mike Smith is the only DC to give up 80+ points in a game.

Took the words right off my keyboard. I'm sure Mike Smith has matured since his days as DC at Tech but man, Chiefs fans should not want Mike Smith as DC to happen
