Vance Walker

He seems to be the forgotten guy of the offseason since his signing. Judging by what I've read on this board I think a lot of people don't know much about him and I even noticed some people aren't aware that we plugged the hole left by Tyson Jackson by signing him.

In Dorsey's pre-draft PC he was asked about the difference from year one to year two and he specifically stated that now he understands that with these new age 3-4/hybrid defenses you no longer have the two traditional 5techs in a scheme like Sutton's. You need a 5tech end and a 3tech. So basically we were playing with two 5techs most of the time (Jackson and Devito) when we needed a guy like Vance to play hate 3tech DE. This is what allowed teams to get away with the quick passing game.

Now instead of a guy like Jackson who we all know can't put pressure on the QB or penetrate we have one of the best interior pass rushers in the league last season at that spot (40+ pressures in '13). Vance has a chance to make our defense work in a way that wasn't possible last season. Along with Ford our pass rush is much improved inside and out and we no longer have Lewis and Dunta on the back end to worry about either. You can expect this defense to be much improved in 2014.

Walker is cheaper and meets our needs far better than Jackson.

The signing was a win for Dorsey.

I'm really glad to hear this out of Dorsey.

Green Bay has been terrible on defense for awhile because they've been sticking with a bunch of dudes on the DL who all do the exact same thing-- try to collapse the pocket and cover the run. That's too much fat. Dom Capers has been trying to get those fatties to be more aggressive for years, and none of them have really met the challenge except for Cullen Jenkins back when Green Bay won the Super Bowl.

When we went with DeVito and Jackson, I was worried we would build our defense the exact same way, but the fact that not only has Dorsey corrected this issue through the Walker signing but has also acknowledged the change publically seems to me that we're actually going to do what it takes to make this an effective and aggressive defensive line.

I believe Jackson was like 5th on the team with 4 sacks last year btw. He was way underrated by people around here.
Actually Walker is known as a run stuffer. He just happens to be a much better rusher than TJax.

Yea me too. Haven't seen anybody on here talk about what he said so I thought it was something interesting everybody on here should hear, but you got idiots complaining as if this thread contains no new information.
