Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 21, 2013, 6:46 PM EDT
Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

You could say the same things about Pioli when he was hired.

Hilarious how Reid and Dorsey were great hires 4 months ago and now they are mouth breathing reeruns.

Yes, you could. I did. I was wrong.

what the **** are you supposed to look for, then? A GM/HC who comes in and DOESN'T address the QB position? Doesn't fill holes in free agency? DOESN'T resign pro bowl players? Because clearly ANY parallel to ***** means we're failures.

Everyone is just ****ing butt-hurt about this team not drafting a QB. If we had taken Tyler Bray in the third round, you'd all be shitting yourselves in glee. "Woot! We got our QBOTF! He has all of da tools!" You'd literally be happier if we got the exact same draft, but took the players in a different order.

Fine!

Here's how it went down:

1.1 - Tyler Bray
2.33 - Eric Fisher
3.65 - Nico Johnson
3.96 - Travis Kelce
4.98 - Traded for Alex Smith
5.134 - Knile Davis
6.170 - Eric Kush
6.204 - Sanders Commings
7.207 - Mike Catapano

Braden Wilson UFA

Happy?

Good.

No, I don't really think you could. Pioli took over a much younger team with more holes. I think there was reason to be optimistic at the dawn of the Pioli era too, but his first offseason didn't really address the holes on the offensive line, at nose tackle, or at safety in any meaningful way. Reid & Co. have the benefit of taking over a more mature team with fewer holes to fill.

Yes. Shut the **** up with your negativity. It's not appropriate. These guys haven't proven they can lose yet, so we should assume they'll win.

I have lurked a lot of sites, and while this site has a lot of negativity, these posters are by far the most intelligent. If you want rainbows and sunshine blown up your ass, go to Arrowhead Addict. This place offers up a needed dose of realism for a team that hasn't won a playoff game since 1993. And I think Clay for the record is a pretty witty guy who seems to base most of his rhetoric on facts and stats.

IMO, of course.

It's possible that a couple of years down the road, we'll decide that the DeVito, S. Smith, and Robinson signings weren't really any better than the stiffs that Pioli brought in to fill the gaps at OL, NT, and S, but for right now I think it's reasonable to be optimistic about the combination of new players and new coaching the 2013 team will have going for it.

Yea everyone knew Bowe was as good as gone and Dorsey resigns him and he is a great GM who knows value, Clark is openiing the books the world is ****ing cotton candy and blowjobs on every corner.

They don't sign Albert to what appears to be a over priced extension and Dorsey is a moron who has no idea how to build a team and Clark is cheap. Lets not forget we are slammed against the cap with barely enough $ to sign our rookies.

Its ****ing laughable. CP has become the polar opposite of other Chiefs sites which are too forgiving.

This place thrives on negativity and internet GM genius.

It's amazing that Clay is grouping the "homers" with literally everybody in the NFL.

I guess the entire NFL is a bunch of reeruns because they don't want to pay Albert his money.

It really boils down to supply and demand in Albert's case. He picked a pretty crappy year to demand this type of money when this was one of the most OT rich classes in recent memory. Similar to the Chiefs picking a terrible year to suck for qb.

The fact that many teams with lackluster LT's didn't go after Albert is enough evidence.
