Paul Harvey, the news commentator and talk-radio pioneer whose staccato style made him one of the nation's most familiar voices, died Saturday, ABC Radio Networks said. He was 90.

Harvey died surrounded by family at a hospital in Phoenix, according to ABC Radio Networks spokesman Louis Adams, where Harvey worked for more than 50 years. No cause of death was immediately available.

It's times like these that makes me think of my own mortality.

Paul Harvey did a Landon Lecture at KSU back in 2003. It was full of sage advice from a guy who could have been every kids grandfather. I enjoyed that day very much as he made the crowd laugh and think about where we were in the world.

He's gone and a little piece of all of us is gone with him.

May the road rise to meet you, Mr. Harvey.
