Top 4 players in the draft in the 49ers eyes

Looks like the top 4 players, at least in the 49ers eyes are QB Aaron Rodgers, WR Braylon Edwards, QB Alex Smith, and CB Antrel Rolle. According to ESPN they are negotiating contracts with all 4 players, with Aaron Rodgers likely to be their pick. Just thought I'd pass along for the Antrel Rolle lovers. He's way gone before we pick. If he goes in the top 5, I'm concerned Carlos Rogers will be gone way before 15, as well.

They need a QB and so do the Browns. If he is gone do you still go for a corner or look for the the best defensive player available? I would do the latter and not reach for a corner. But then Carl and company love to reach in the first two rounds.

I heard yesterday, they were no longer interested in Rolle.

hopefully... the further Rolle falls, the better chance we have of getting Rogers.

this would be a bad year to take a QB at the top of the first round. These guys don't quite measure up to what's been there the past few years.

True, but with the salary cap and rookie pay scale, QB is the only logical choice for #1 overall pick bc of money. Left tackle would be the only other position I could see that it would probally be worthy to pay the money for.

i dunno...

taking rodgers makes too much sense for carl/dammit...

i doubt we get him...

after all, i'm sure that there are several reaches available at dt and te...

what's the first and second round for, anyway?

it's project time...

lately, it seems that we draft our starters in the fourth and fifth rounds (see allen and fujita)...

thank heavens we have lots of picks in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rounds...

The QB from Cal?

I think you mean Rogers, the CB from Auburn.

DJ, Rolle, Rogers and Jones will all be gone when the 15th pick comes up. I just hope we are not still picking 15th.

I still believe KC will tradeup if he's in range though

I don't think so. I don't see that killer instinct this offseason.

They have had shots at all 3 top corners this offseason. Haven't pulled the trigger on a big time deal for any one of them but brought in a safety instead.

They had shots at both the top 2 linebackers, and got the cheaper, higher risk one, when the position is a huge hole on the team.

People like Pryce or Abraham may come available on the defensive line; they traded a low value pick for a project player.

I don't hate our offseason so far. I want to believe they will land Derrick Johnson. But what have we done this offseason that makes you think they are going to pull the trigger on a big deal like that?

If I were a betting man, I would bet a goodly sum that Carl is either going to sit at 15 and hope the player he wants drops there, or trade down and draft multiple tweeners in the second.

We offered good contracts to both Hartwell and Trotter. I don't really see how we didn't have a "killer instinct" with those two. I could see how Samari Rolle could fall under that heading, but I am still confident that we will trade for Surtain. If Carl felt like he had any real competition he wouldn't be willing to wait until the draft to do the trade. I have seen more aggressiveness out of Carl/the FO this offseason then in a long time.
