I understand the middle digit 20 days, but the doubling for adios? He said bye, she said adios. She's a ****tard yes, but he seemed to overreact a bit over adios.

Then again, I'd probably be the same way dealing with degenerates every day.

He should have made her wipe that ****in smirk off of her face right away rather than goofing on it and basically encouraging it. By making a joke out of it, he was encouraging her to take it lightly.

Dick move by the judge. Don't allow a light hearted atmosphere if you're going to flip on it as soon as someone says bye to you. Be consistent.

That was my take on it, too. It seemed like he was kind of having fun and joking, and then he hammered her when she did the same.

I guess I could possibly see the Hispanic thing that Dante mentioned, though. I didn't pick up on that possibility.

You know, I can actually agree with this.

It was obvious she wasn't taking it serious. He should have been firm and stern from the beginning instead of letting it devolve into the childish back-and-forth that it did. It was her first offense and she's only 18, she could have learned something from her first court hearing. Now she just probably has a really bad taste in her mouth and will go on to resent authority figures even more.

This isn't a parenting situation. He's a judge, not her dad. You disrespect a judge, you pay the price. He may have added on to her sentence, but that just tells me he had time to work with. There are statutes as to how long a person can serve for different offenses. If he had the extra time to give her, she must have been getting off pretty light to start with. If that's the case, you say thank you and move on.

On an unrelated note, I had a meeting in the office of a federal judge today and will report that federal judges have nice offices. I think I've had apartments in the past that were smaller.
