Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

That's cool, and also irrelevant.

We've established that Sean Smith has neither elite production nor elite talent, therefore it's unlikely he ever plays at a top level.

Apart from rainbows blowing out homer assholes. I'll accept that argument.

I think you should stick to making internet videos and gifs for websites and leave actual football discussion to people who actually can understand it.

No it's not! You saying he doesn't have elite speed, implying that you have to have elite speed to be an elite corner. So that's why I pointed out Richard Sherman who ran a 4.56

Can you comprehend?

We've established that Sean Smith is a 6'3 corner who is a better fit in an attacking press man system than he is in a zone system. Thus, we are running a press system here, which would on the surface make him a solid fit.

What have you established exactly besides cherry picking information from PFF and talking to Dolphin fans about this guy?

Oh yeah, you also posted a picture of Andre Johnson beating him one time like that's supposed to be a huge red flag.

ESPN.com news services

The Browns had set a Thursday deadline for New England Patriots vice president Scott ***** to make a decision on becoming Cleveland's top football executive, the Boston Herald reported, citing sources familiar with the negotiations.

According to the report, ***** and Browns owner Randy Lerner, who met Wednesday in New York, left the meeting with no deal in place, but a deadline for ***** to make a decision was established.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer, however, citing a league source with knowledge of the negotiations, said ***** was not given a deadline.

Thursday came and went without word of ***** making a decision.

The Herald previously reported that Lerner was prepared to make a "huge" financial offer to ***** that would include full control of the Browns' football operations, and that Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz was *****'s first choice to replace Romeo Crennel as head coach.

After his Hawkeyes defeated South Carolina in the Outback Bowl on Thursday, Ferentz told ESPN's Rob Stone that any talk about the Browns' job was premature.

The Herald reported that according to a source, ***** made demands that would be impossible for any team to meet -- leaving some in the Browns organization wondering if ***** really wants to leave the Patriots.

For the vacant coaching job, Lerner has met with former New York Jets coach Eric Mangini and New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and set up interviews with Tennessee defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who spent three years in the Browns' personnel department as a pro and college scout in the 1990s; and Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, a Canton, Ohio, native.

The 49-year-old Spagnuolo has an interview with the Jets scheduled for Saturday. The Detroit Lions are also expected to meet with Spagnuolo.

The Plain Dealer reported the Browns also are interested in meeting with ex-Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

*****, who has been coach Bill Belichick's right-hand man in the Patriots' front office since 2000, is also being sought by the Kansas City Chiefs, according to media reports.

But the Kansas City Star reported that Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt already has determined the team will split up the duties that had been the sole responsibility of former general manager Carl Peterson, with a new team president handling business affairs and a GM handling football operations. That would seem to run counter to *****'s reported interest in full control.

The Browns also were preparing to talk with Atlanta president Rich McKay on Thursday for the football operations job, but because the Falcons are preparing for Saturday's playoff game, that interview has been postponed, a source told the Plain Dealer.
Read your own link:

The Cleveland Plain Dealer, however, citing a league source with knowledge of the negotiations, said ***** was not given a deadline.

...
The Herald reported that according to a source, Pioli made demands that would be impossible for any team to meet -- leaving some in the Browns organization wondering if Pioli really wants to leave the Patriots.

No one's saying he's Revis. Certainly not me, but I'm not going to bash him without seeing him at least in this system where he'll be in a new scheme.

That's not what I implied at all.

At all.

The discussion was "does Sean Smith have elite talent?"

Since he's less physically talented than Stanford Routt - e.g. he runs slower, jumps shorter - he's not close to elite talent.

He could be a good corner if the rest of his game was on point but he's a trainwreck to this point in his career.

I wish him well.

That's the good thing about his deal if he sucks he's gone after year 1.

Also, only $7.465 million is fully guaranteed. The 2014 base salary of $3.45 million is guaranteed for injury only, and it becomes fully guaranteed on February 7.
