Arrowhead Naming Rights
Sorry if repost...
http://www.thekansascitychannel.com/...23/detail.html KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- KMBC has learned that the Chiefs are starting to shop around the naming rights for Arrowhead Stadium. In the new lease deal, the Chiefs and the Royals gained control over their stadium naming rights and would get to keep all funds from any sale. KMBC's Micheal Mahoney reported that the Chiefs appear to be in the initial stages of checking to see whether any company is interested in buying the naming rights. The Chiefs confirmed that they have retained a company to help them look for a potential buyer. "I would guess that both (the Chiefs and the Royals) are entertaining the possibility of naming rights," said Jim Rowland, executive director of the Jackson County Sports Authority. Mahoney reported that the name of an NFL stadium is probably worth several million dollars a year. For example, Sprint is paying $2.5 million a year for the new downtown arena for 25 years, and the arena doesn't have a team yet. Rowland said the teams would take the issue of naming rights seriously. "Both teams are certainly aware of the brand identity they've developed with Arrowhead Stadium and Kaffuman stadium. And I know the Royals are certainly sensitive and protective of the Kauffman name," Rowland said. Mahoney reported that selling the naming rights is probably not the No. 1 priority for either team -- they're both preparing for the large-scale renovations voters approved last year. |

Maybe Chevrolet could be the sponsor and it could officially be called CamaroHead.

That is total BS. Allowing any kind of naming rights to either stadium is an insult to Lamar Hunt and the fans and should require the shooting of anyone associatied with the deal. I swear if they change the name noone can ever refer to it as whatever corporation Stadium and we should kick anyones ass who does.

BOCA RATON, FLA. It appears Arrowhead Stadium could have a new naming rights sponsor sometime down the road. “We are in discussions with two companies, but I’d say they’re very preliminary at this point,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said at the NFL’s annual meeting. But if the Chiefs were to sell the naming rights to the stadium, Donovan wanted to make it clear that fans don’t have to worry about losing the “Arrowhead” name. “It would be ‘blank’ field at Arrowhead,” Donovan said. “We go into that discussion with partners that way. We think Arrowhead is iconic, we think it’s part of the brand, so changing that name doesn’t work for us.” In that way, the name would be similar to Denver’s stadium, which is called Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Donovan said that in the NFL, the average naming rights to a stadium go for around $8 million to $9 million per year. In the Chiefs’ market size, deals are often between $6 million to $8 million. “It creates the opportunity to be more invested in some of your facilities, some of the things we do with our coaching staff, some of the things we do with our training staff,” Donovan said. “It just gives you more capital to be better. You’ve got to figure out how to invest your money to create more value.” The Chiefs’ search for a naming-rights sponsor is nothing new. Donovan said that prior to his arrival in 2009, the Chiefs had two different search agencies help them with the task. They haven’t had one since his arrival, although they’ve had a inquiries from a few different companies and are starting to have some of those conversations right now. Donovan added the Chiefs have had a number of discussions over the past five years about selling the naming rights to the stadium, and that some of them have gotten to the point of being pretty close. “But we haven’t found the right partner or the right deal,” Donovan said. |

Didn't like it back then... don't like it now. The team is already saturated by sponsors (with more to come on their uniforms in the very near future) without this.

They really need to get Arrowhead water involved. They had the naming rights to the Mighty Ducks arena until 2006. Perfect fit and the name doesn't have to change much at all. Heck, this is such a good fit that they should do it for less money!
