Would you trade this last SB for the one versus Tampa?

Had this discussion recently with a friend.

I'd rather have back-to-back SB wins. That's more rare. Also, one less Super Bowl for Brady.

The biggest negative would be the loss to Cincinnati in 2021 would sting even more, since we'd be effectively squandering three consecutive SB wins.

YEP !! But all of that is gone now. I think these next 5-7 yrs just when we think Pat couldn't get any better he actually takes his game to another level no one has ever seen before in a NFL QB. Get ready for the ride, cuz it's going to be fun !!!!

I like that Mahomes had to redeem himself, plus he won it without Hill. It felt like he truly evolved to another level this year.

It was special.

It's true, but I think that people who prognosticate about legacies are capable of understanding a little nuance. Gonzales is considered one of the greatest TEs ever despite never getting a ring. Barry Sanders is considered to be one of the greatest RBs despite never winning...well...much of anything. The 1972 Dolpins aren't really thought of as being the greatest NFL team of all time despite going undefeated.

It's true that Brady will most likely hold on to the title of WOAT (winningest). If Mahomes can keep it up, though, I think he's got a shot at GOAT even if he doesn't catch Brady in rings.

(And of course, we're assuming that Mahomes will keep it up long enough for it to be a legit discussion, which requires knocking on every piece of wood in a 5-mile radius.)

No I wouldn’t. **** Brady and that stupid debate

This win was sweeter because we won it after failures in 2020 and 2021. Did it after we were doubted (can’t win without Tyreek). Instead of being viewed as on the decline, we are on the up and up. It also helped us develop a really nice short passing game, which allowed us to win SB57. I think the team is better equipped to handle a SB55 situation now that we’re alot more comfortable with long, methodical drives and short passes

Nah. We got the excuse for that.

Way bigger story that we proved we can win post rebuild. When we win more championships barely anyone will remember a young mahomes losing. Meanwhile lots of guys like Herbert gonna fizzle after his teammates start getting paid. This is the start of the mahomes gap widening.

Mahomes averages 246 passing yards, 1.6 TDs, 1.3 INTs, and an additional 35 rushing yards and .3 TDs in Super Bowls. Those numbers are garbage when compared to his regular season or even overall postseason averages so casual fans will just cite those as if he’s been dogshit in the SB.

Interestingly, Brady’s numbers in conference championship games are dogshit but his numbers in Super Bowls are incredible. Mahomes’ numbers in CCGs are amazing but crappy in SBs. It’s kind of weird.
Mahomes had a 96/100 QBR grade in the most recent Super Bowl. That’s phenomenal. He barely got to touch the ball because the Eagles hogged it. By comparison, Brady won a Super Bowl against the Rams with a QBR of 24/100. Carried by Belichick’s defense, which only allowed 3 points to the Rams.

Everything that happened along the way helped to make Pat the QB he is now. Need me to quit drifting back? Ok. Need to win without Reek? Ok. Need to win the AFCCG with Marcus Kemp called up from the PS and getting significant snaps? Ok. Need me to play the majority of the playoffs on a busted up ankle that'll perpetually be re-injured? Let's go.

-Mahomes beats Brady in a Super Bowl, but he does it with a juggernaut of an offense with Kelce and Tyreek. People could argue that he's a product of the system, and after trading Tyreek, the team fails to win the Super Bowl again.

OR

-Mahomes loses to Brady in a game in which his OL completely failed him, and there's zero question that he was the best player on the field that day. Shortly after, he wins another one with a bunch of mediocre WRs and in a season where the team was supposed to be rebuilding.

I'd argue that the second scenario does more to build his legacy than the first, but therein lies the debate.
He still has plenty of time and opportunities to build his legacy with JAGs at WR. But his legacy shouldn't be about being one of the greatest, but the GOAT. His hill to overcome that is harder as he now still need 5 SBs to tie Brady vs 4 (which is more realistic). Plus he will still have the "Yeah but he couldn't beat Brady argument". That to me is why that SB would have meant more. You know Mahomes wants to be known as the best ever and I would think if he could choose he would have the TB SB.

Correct. But he was essentially perfect. Not his fault that Philly had the ball for a massive chunk of the game. That’s where Brady has always been extremely fortunate. The Belichick defense has always helped him a ton, except against Nick Foles.
