Well he was exciting to watch. It's been a LONG time since watching a Royal starting pitcher was exciting. Even our aces didn't make me excited, I just hoped they didn't mess up, and went a full seven.

Chen's the master of turning lemons into lemonade (save his last start), but if we could get Duffy or Zimmer into the rotation, this would be a pretty rock solid rotation from 1-5.

Shields is Shields.
Vargas is fully capitalizing on a great defense.
Guthrie is lucky.
Ventura is a god.

What is his career norm, though? We have no idea what it really is at this point, since he's only made 5 MLB starts.

Or are you talking about Vargas? You quoted a post about Ventura.

I don't know that "career norms" for Vargas happen. I don't expect an ERA in the 2s, but an ERA in the 3.50-3.75 range would be within reach, I think.

Zimmer hasn't started throwing at a minor league level, per the normal plan. I know they were intending to bring him up in the second half of the season and were hoping to get a bump from him at that point. I think the plan is to rotate Duffy into Chen's rotation spot and then eventually slide Zimmer into that role.

Scouting report remains the same. Big-time stuff. Was awesome after making some adjustments late last year. Some injury concerns.
