Your final 53

Call your final 53. Be prepared to defend your roster.

OFF (25)
QB (2) Mahomes, Henne
RB (3) CEH, McKinnon, Williams
FB (0)
WR (6) Hill, Hardman, Pringle, DRob, Fountain, Kemp
TE (4) Kelce, Bell, Fortson, Gray
OT (4) Brown, Niang, Remmers, PTW
OG (4) Thuney, Smith, LDT, Allegretti
C (2) Humphrey, Blythe
DEF (25)
DE (6) Clark, Jones, Okafor, Danna, Kaindoh, T. Ward, Harris
DT (4) Nnadi, Reed, Wharton, Saunders
LB (5) Gay, Hitchens, Bolton, Niemann, Cobb
CB (6) Sneed, C. Ward, Fenton, Hughes, Keyes, Baker
S (4) Mathieu, Sorenson, Thornhill, Watts
ST (3)
Winchester, Townsend, Butker
My logic is:
Williams over Gore since Williams is a good blocker. No FB because both Gray and Fortson can play H-back. LDT is too expensive to cut. Allegretti and Blythe can both play C/G. I never want to see Wylie in a Chiefs uniform again and the Prince looks good. DRob and Kemp because there's no one else. Blythe can be put on IR after the final roster for a pick up.
Jones can play inside and out, so it's really 5 and 5 on the D-line. I question Clark's future. Cobb over DOD any day of the week.
I'd like to figure out some way to keep Buechele, but I can't seem to find a viable cut. I'm not sure I want to part ways with either Bell or Blythe just yet.

Key seems really smart and is a solid tackler. Hopefully they can bring him back and coach him up over time

For all the talk about 'difficult cuts' - this doesn't seem that hard.

Offense(26):

QB (2):
Mahomes, Henne

RB (4):
CEH, McKinnon, Williams, Burton

WR (6):
Hill, Hardman, Robinson, Pringle, Kemp, Fountain

TE (4):
Kelce, Fortson, Bell, Gray

OL (10):
Brown, Thuney, Creed, Smith, Niang, Remmers, Wylie, Allegretti, LDT, Blythe

Defense (24):

DL (10):
Clark, Jones, Okafor, Reed, Nnadi, Dana, Wharton, Saunders, Kaindoh, Ward

LB (5):
Hitchens, Gay, Bolton, Niemann, DoD

CB(5):
Ward, Snead, Hughes, Fenton, Baker

S(4):
Mathieu, Thornhill, Sorensen, Watts

STs(3):
Butker, Townsend, Wichester

I mean...what tough cuts were there? Ward over Harris? Fortson over Thompson? DoD over Keyes/Cobb? Watts over Key? Fountain over Powell?

The Chiefs may ultimately disagree with me but I didn't think this was a difficult roster to put together at all. And LDT probably goes to the IR the day after final rosters are due so that will potentially find a home for one of those guys.

But to my eyes, camp and the pre-season made it clear who deserved to be on the team. Fountain made the squad - flat out took the job. Likewise with Ward and Fortson. The only cuts who played well enough to stay on a quality NFL team were probably Thompson and Gore. Keyes and Key played like shit. Powell was invisible. Harris was just the same fairly limited tweener sort he's always been.

This is as obvious a roster as I've seen coming out of the pre-season in quite some time, IMO. Even the gameday inactives seem likely to be pretty straightforward.

Copied and pasted from last week:

My preseason week 2 projected final roster (not assuming waiver/FA signings). I fully expect that 2-3 of these guys on this list will be some combination
of traded or replaced by someone not yet on the roster.

QB: Mahomes, Henne
RB: CEH, Williams, McKinnon, Gore
FB: Burton
TE: Kelce, Bell, Gray, Fortson
T: Brown, Niang, Remmers, Wylie
C/G: Humphrey, Blythe, Thuney, Smith, Allegretti,
WR: Hill, Hardman, Pringle, Robinson, Kemp, Fountain

DE: Jones, Okafor, Kaindoh, Clark, Danna, Ward
DT: Reed, Wharton, Nnadi, Saunders
LB: Hitchens, Gay, Bolton, Neiman, DoD
CB: Ward, Sneed, Hughes, Fenton, Baker
S:Mathieu, Sorenson, Thornhill, Watts

Offense: 26
Defense: 24

The players i considered for the final roster spot: Bell, LDT, Key.

I went with Bell ultimately because he's a special teamer who has a couple of years in the offense. I understand that cutting LDT doesn't make salary
cap sense, but i think the Chiefs care more about the best roster than what makes salary cap sense. LDT missed a year of football and was running with the 3rd team, mostly, before getting hurt.

Pretty much.

Our 53's are pretty damn close to the same. Except i don't have LDT making the team. Whether that's due to IR, trade or outright cut, idk.

I don't think they can put him on IR without first putting him on their final 53. After 24 hours, they can then add him to IR but not without first exposing cut players to be picked up by other teams.

Whatever they have to do....i just don't foresee him being a part of this team. I understand his contract makes him unlikely to be cut, but i think the Chiefs just eat it so they can field their best team.

Didn't play last season.

Barely participated in camp due to injury.

Was buried on the depth chart before the injury.

I don't think that bodes well for him.

I tend to agree. I wonder if there’s any chance he gets dealt.

I think Darwin Thompson would be claimed off waivers and that Gore would not.

Thompson has a couple years of film being a special teams regular.

Gore has been a final cut in 2019 and 2020 with Chargers and he did not even get on a practice squad until teams had injuries in October 2019 and November 2020.

I think Fountain could also avoid being claimed and be available for practice squad.
