well that was another good inning

I'm going to email Ned when our bullpen is back at full strength and ask him to start taking Guthrie and Vargas out in the 6th inning in games we are leading by 2 or less

It's only April. That ain't happening. It probably will when we get to crunch time, but he's trying to get innings out of his rotation.

which makes sense on EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE WORLD but when you have a 6 headed bullpen monster with Morales as well ...

it's impossible for these guys not to stay fresh

impossible

we literally don't need Guts or Vargas to eat more than 5 innings per start

And the offense has been able to generate a lot of runs at times so why not let Guthrie/Vargas appear in the 6th

Neither one has shown the ability to keep a lead with Vargas being the much worse of the 2

We'll see come September.

We are not trying to win April. We are trying to win October. Pace yourself. If you only get 300 innings out of Vargas and Guthrie that's about 100 extra innings you have to come up with from the bullpen. That's asking a ton. Doesn't matter who the bullpen is. We're already missing our closer.

the only reason is ... we can literally rest all three borgs in whatever games we want and still have a Morales / Madson / Frasor (or any variation) with Chris Young as well. And we still have Hochevar chilling in AAA.

Guthrie and Vargas are guys who are going to get crushed, more often than not, the 3rd time through a lineup. When you have THIS bullpen ... USE it. This is twice now, in the early season, I would have turned to the bullpen in Guthrie starts and each time Guthrie gave up the runners (or the HR the first time) to put the game back in question.

Ned has the BvP I guarantee it. These guys have CRUSHED Guthrie. They all have .OPS north of 1.000 against him. Give Finnegan a clean 6th next time.
