Went through 3 of them last night. Maybe it's because I already know the end of the story, but it's just sort of... eh... so far.

So the last two episodes certainly made this worth watching, though the fact that I already knew the outcome hurt it somewhat. Pretty incredible that these filmmakers broke this story while shooting a long form documentary.
When Susan Berman's "son" finds the letter and realizes Durst's guilt... that's good stuff. Then when they're preparing to confront Durst and finally do it. Riveting. The rest of it felt pretty much like a Dateline or 20/20 It actually kind of reminds me of Mistaken for Strangers, the documentary about the National which really becomes interesting when it becomes "meta" and becomes about the making of the documentary itself vs. the actual subject of the documentary. There's something riveting about a documentary, then at a certain point having that shift to where the curtain gets peeled back and you're seeing the documentary get made.

The interest of the series for me were, in descending order 1. The almost wacky, almost Fargo-esque, details of the alleged crimes. If only Bob knew about wood chippers. 2. Bob's background and upbringing/family relationship 3. Bob's personality, the matter of fact way he could either baldly lie or admit the most heinous things, and the subtle resentment that worked into his demeanor when discussing his brother. The ending was a denouement.

Honestly, this seems more than likely to happen. As far as I know, they have no murder weapon, no way to pin Durst to even being in Los Angeles on the day of the crime, no witnesses, no forensic evidence (other than the letter), and a somewhat mixed motive story. Basically, their side is that Durst whacked her to avoid having her squeal about him killing his wife. His side will be (1) they were good friends going back like 25+ years, and (2) why would he suddenly be afraid that she would flip on him, when she was such a good mouthpiece for him when his wife disappeared? The TV show hinted that she was blackmailing him. The answer to that is beyond easy -- this guy has more money than God and didn't even care about it all. He'd given her money before, and no doubt would again, because money meant literally nothing to him. That leaves basically the letter, which definitely looks bad, and the confession, which may or may not be suppressed. Let's just say it's FAR from an air-tight case. Like the exact opposite of one really. And the ****er will have the best lawyers. Again...

Watching the Jinx now. I've kept my wife from learning anything about Durst. We started watching it last night, after the news broke, and am now four episodes in. Should finish tonight.
She is dying with curiosity, but agreed not to read about him online etc. until we get through it.

It's definitely happening.
"The transfer came after a court hearing Tuesday morning. After that hearing, Durst's attorney, Dick DeGuerin, proclaimed his client's innocence. DeGuerin said the HBO series was being unfairly used to prosecute him. "The warrant that was issued in California was issued because of a television show and not because of facts," he said." http://www.nbcnews.com/news/crime-co...cility-n325586 Last edited by Red Brooklyn; 03-18-2015 at 09:43 AM.. |

If they can prove he wrote the letter, that will put him in LA. They know when and where it was mailed.

Long story short, it'd be a shock if he didn't end up with a lifetime treatment plan at some facility. Rich people job the system every day but he seemed like a legit DPD type guy |
