Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

That's like saying you should have picked the hooker that had crabs as opposed to the one who had a yeast infection.

Whether the initial was a 3rd or something else, I'm not sure.
If its anything like the Smith trade it probably went from a 5th to a 4th

Why?

I think Dane may have pointed out the ONLY positive that Pioli may have drafted a decent player with the second round pick but thats hghly questionable.

There is 0 reason to believe drafting Sanchez would have accomplished anything different except shutting up the we haven't done that in 30 years crowd.

That said, we cannot immediately assume that just because a player fails or succeeds in one place that the failure or success is translatable to all franchises. Works both ways for good and bad.
Additionally, not every QB pans out regardless of circumstance. It's impossible to know if Sanchez could have improved consistently with a different team. It's pure speculation and basically signifies that the person making that claim is entirely ignorant of coaching and other variables that factor into a player's success.

Players go to different teams all the time and enjoy success when they didn't find it on their first, second or even third teams. That could very well happen with Alex Smith. I just don't think it is likely.

Who knows what Sanchez would have turned out to be here.

I'll never get mad at the Chiefs taking a chance at a Qb early in the draft, even if I don't like the prospect. Hell, if they take one this year in any round earlier than the 4th I'll be ecstatic.

If you flipped Sanchez's career and his first two years were his most recent two, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

So we're trading a LT to draft a LT with the first overall pick?

NICE!

Mark Sanchez is a loser and he would have failed here.

Why? Because he is a lazy bum. His own teammates called him out for it.

More likely he would have failed then the other way around. He may be a poor fit but he's also a lazy ****.

Funny, considering the amount of bitching you've done in this thread alone.

Absolutely. Here's a tip..go back and watch Reids intro speech and listen to the things he lists as traits he looks for in qbs and tell me Alex Smith fits that. He doesn't. There is another interesting tidbit in there about what he doesn't look for.
