2013 NFL Sunday Ticket + Alternatives

I know we had this thread last year, but things change every year so I thought I'd post this.

I've been with DirecTV for about 6 years now for the Ticket, but I can't afford it anymore. So I thought I'd see what things we learn as we negotiate, work around the Ticket, and find ways to watch our Chiefs games out of market as affordable as possible.

I know there's a promotion with Madden 25. What else is there this year?

Just taking a guess here but maybe DTV has caught on to the game everyone is trying to run on them about getting ST for cheap\free if they threaten to cancel? You guys aren't the only ones trying to do that it is all over the Internet. They paid 4 billion dollars to the NFL they have to get their money back somehow.

Today I called to get my Ticket handled, and not only did they not give me a deal, but they also were very nonchalant about letting me cancel. I have never had that happen. And I am always nice and polite. But today, it was a no go and they were ready to let me walk even though I am no longer under contract, therefore for termination fees.

So, thankfully for me, I just happened to watch the World Cup in a bar close to my house that just so happens to have a Chiefs fan as a GM. They said they'd be happy to show all the chiefs games, with sound every Sunday for me. Now, I just have to get my Roku situation handled, for intenet TV, and tell DTV to Kiss.My.Ass.
You're probably going to spend a lot more than $240 on beer and chicken wings.

I got rid of DTV awhile ago, one of the smartest things we ever did. Using Roku's the laptop or game system to watch netflix, hulu or just a net site hasn't been a problem.

I always thought cutting that cord would create a huge problem, it really didn't.

I have no idea that is why I said I am taking a guess. Something must have happened for them to stop or at least offer something else. I would say it was because of their deal with AT&T but that hasn't been approved yet.

If that were true I wouldn't have gotten it for free so easily again. I think it's about who you talk to and if they or their supervisor is willing to go the max (no pun) to keep you.

It's not a matter of I can't afford it. It's a matter of them raising the prices and giving better deals to brand new customers instead of the people that have given them thousands of dollars over the course of 10-12 years.

Last year I bought the Madden anniversary edition that included Sunday ticket via the web for $100. It worked well for me. I really only watched the Chiefs games on it. Hoping that they'll offer it again this year but not optimistic.

Called and talked to a regular CSR who offered me $31.99 for 6 months instead of $39.99 for 6 months. Had her cancel ST for me and then had her transfer me to someone to find out how long I have left on my contract. I may just wait a couple of days and call to "cancel" because I no longer have ST.

Honestly....I may just not re-up and stream the games this year unless they offer me an awesome price...and it's not sounding like they're doing that this year.

It'll be worth calling in a month or so to try again for those of you who aren't getting good deals. They sometimes get a little more aggressive on the discounts closer to the season.

Found out that my contract is up in a month. I had them cancel ST so I at least wouldn't be paying for it until I decide what to do. It just sucks because brand new customers right now get my same package for $35 a month for 12 months, a free genie AND NFL Sunday Ticket Max for free.
