Dr.Z on the Trent hit + Power Rankings
I know we have beat this horse enough, but here are the Dr Z. thoughts from his newest power raknkings. Not a huge fan of the Dr., but it will be interesting to read what he writes about it in his column.
Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) Man, what a tough way for Herman Edwards and Trent Green to start out. O-line's turned into a disaster area, and Herman can only hope that it somehow firms itself up when Green comes back from that terrible concussion he suffered. Was the blow deliberate? Oh, hell yes, of course it was. More about that in Thursday's column. Here is the link to the rest of the rankings. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...x.html?cnn=yes |

What sealed it for me was the fact that Geathers went so low.
He did that for one of two reasons: (1.) He was aiming for Green's legs when he was up; (2.) He was going low because he had to meet Green at that level, otherwise he'd go over him. The former seems very doubtful. It's pretty clear to me that he went low because Green already was. |

St. Louis Rams (1-0)
Yes, they beat the Broncos with defense. It works this way. You replace one of the league's worst defensive coaches with one of the best, Jim Haslett, and this is what happens. No, I won't mention the name of the former. I was on his case too much already last year.

I got pretty pissed off yesterday when I was watching Totally Football on FSN, and the lead story, outside of Branch going to Seattle, was whether or not Big ben was going to play this week. The guy is fine, just needs a minute, and his back-up did a pretty good job of holding down the fort. They never mentioned Trent Green or the hit or any updates on his condition. NOTHING. But poor Big Ben, is he ok?
It is so irritating. At that point our QB is still in the hospital, but not a word about him. But lets talk about BIg ben and his lil surgery some more. Totally Football? how about Totally fucked? |

it just further proves the fact that if the hit was on Tom Brady, or Big Ben, or heaven forbid one of the Manning's...that's all that the NFL would be talking about...but since it's Trent Green in Kansas City...ah...who cares, right? |

The game wasn't on in my area so I watched it at a bar and don't have the opportunity to TiVO it, but I remember Geathers and the other Cinci players celebrating and smiling after the hit. Correct me if I'm wrong. It seems to me that if Geathers was really unable to control himself, his forst reaction would not be celebratory after the hit he knew he shouldn't have made. That, to me, makes it a penalty. If his reaction was concern, which would seem the logical reaction for someone who wanted to but couldn't avoid the hit, then I could accept the defense of his actions. Does anyone remember or did they show the initial reactions of Geathers?
