Patriots are confusing me

What is the deal with Welker? What is it about Welker that is (a) worth the contract and (b) worth a 2nd round pick if MIA doesn't match?

Patriots | Welker update
Mon, 5 Mar 2007 10:29:38 -0800
Dan Pires, of The Standard-Times, reports the offer sheet the New England Patriots signed restricted free agent WR Wes Welker (Dolphins) is a seven-year, $38 million offer, according to sources close to the situation. The Patriots would have to give up a second-round draft pick to the Miami Dolphins should the Dolphins decline to match the offer.

Point proven. There are some ridiculous talents taken just after #60.

Yet again: horrible deal.

One thing we know for sure, unlike a draft pick at #60, a FA WR is a sure thing.

Sincerely, Randy Moss to the Raiders

I haven't kept up with what's happening with the Patriots except what I hear from my brother in Maine. They plan to really spend this off-season per what he told me. IIRC, even use up the cap.

As for Moss...well Dillon was considered to be a problem too. It worked out.
Sorry to see Dillon go. I think he could still contribute s/g even if he doesn't get all the carries.

I think the Dillon/Moss comparison is a bad one. They have both had problems off the field, yes, but as far as I know, Dillon never dogged it while playing.

Agreed, that's the main issue. But we both know the Pats do their homework, and if we **COULD** get Moss and he **DOES** play with effort, then it would be a tremendous, tremendous upgrade at a position of need.

But that's alot of ifs, couldas and wouldas....
