View Poll Results: Would you swap our 2015 1st for a 2014 2nd?
Yes. I would trade with any team. 4 4.94%
Perhaps, depending on where the pick lies in the 2nd. I'm not terribly interested in taking Seattle's pick 16 19.75%
Probably not. I'd need to see who was available when we made the deal, but I'm leaning towards no 28 34.57%
No. Too risky. You have no clue where we'll pick or what kind of talent will be there 33 40.74%

Would you trade 2015's 1st rounder for a 2014 2nd round pick?

A lot of people (most vocally BossChief) are observing that because of all the underclassmen coming into this draft, there is a logjam of talent extending all the way from the middle of the 1st to the early 4th round. The Chiefs only have 2 picks in the top 100. Also, that is almost sure to figure into a somewhat lousy 2015 class.

Let's say the Chiefs make a deal with the 49ers to get their Alex Smith pick back in exchange for our 2015 1st. Picks at 23, 56, and 87 will allow us to potentially fill all of the remaining roster holes or pick up an incredible talent at a future position of need like CB, DL... hell, even QB.

The possibilities are endless in this scenario. Maybe Dorsey lands a trade down at 23 and picks up more picks. Or maybe a guy like Clinton-Dix or Beckham is available at 1. That 2nd round pick of ours now gives us the freedom to target our FS, passrusher (I'm a huge fan of Jeremiah Attaochu), or another bottom first round talent who is bound to fall into our laps in this deep class.

It gives us a ton more freedom at the top of the draft where we really need it. That's why I'd advocate for it.

EDIT: And as htismaqe pointed out, we've got a crap ton of comp picks in 2015 anyway. It's not like we're going to be starved for rookies or anything.

Poll forthcoming

If he's building the team through the draft, then that's not building through the draft?

So if multiple picks, aside from our 2nd that we gave up, become good players, what does that mean?

We could have had TWO good players for what we gave up to get Alex Smith.

Trading away picks can never equal building through the draft. They are opposing viewpoints.

But getting a player that wins and plays well at the most important position in sports (something that is very hard to find) isn't worth that?

Sure, but then you're not building through the draft. You're trading picks for an established player.

Seahawks did this and just won the SB. Why? Bc they built through the draft and brought in good veteran players.

There's the Seahawks again. As if anybody, let alone the Chiefs, will be able to duplicate it.

Would you be willing to trade back from the 23rd pick to the 37th pick for the 44th pick in this years draft?

So we got torched by Manning and Luck (and Rivers) in 2013 so his solution is to draft a GUARD in 2014 and get a CB in 2015?

Depends on who is there. But in general, yes.

Of course, a lot of teams will likely be looking to do that.

Something along those lines would be optimal even if we had to throw them a 6th or something at the end.

This isn't about the Chiefs. You said they can't go hand in hand. Other teams have proven your theory wrong.
