Picture Projects/Editing Software

Hey folks. Just looking for your recommendations.

What is the best/one of the better picture projects/editing software programs out there?

Freeware would be best....but we'll buy the right program.

It doesn't need to be fancy. The wife just wants to make Calendars with collages/montages, scrapbooking pages, etc. Cropping, moving, turning, tilting pics, with easy "click and drag" sort of features would be ideal. Photoshop sorts of manipulations are much, much more than what she's looking for.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know....but if I have Powerpoint, are you saying we could do most of what we want there?

I'm wondering, specifically, about picture editing....but, now than you mention it, that wouldn't necessarily be a big part of what we wanted to do.

Thanks, BL.

Paint shop pro is a good photoshop alternative. I'm not sure how much it costs though.

I've heard good things about Google's Picasa. We use the entry Adobe product (Premiere Elements? maybe), and it works well. We have the combo photo/video software....runs about $100 or so for the two combined.

I'd prefer something I download to my computer, and not to mess with a web-based hosting situation. But thanks for your help.

Thanks for the tip; I'll check it out.

I've tried Picasa....and, initially anyway, it's not real user-friendly. But then again, I've not done much with photo-editing programs before so maybe it's just me.
