Strange SSD Thing

I have two SSDs in my machine.

The first is my C drive and it works flawlessly, my OS is on there.

The second is my D drive. It only works if I'm turning my PC back on after a hard turn off. That is, if while my machine is running, I hold down the power button until it turns off.

Whenever I normally shut it down, the D drive does not show up upon reboot.

It's really weird and I can't figure out why its happening.

Any ideas?

Are you in Win10?
If so are you all the way updated?
By all the way updated, does this include the Anniversary Update [v.1607]?

As MS continues to update its Win10 OS, it's getting more and more problems with 2ndary drives being recognized.

I had a thread on it a couple months back. I had to roll back from 1607 to 1511 and wait for MS to fix the problem because I lost my 3 TB external drive otherwise [it was fine, just not recognized]. Still waiting on a fix.

Check that there isn't seeing selected on the drive that lets Windows power down the device when not in use (device manager)

I think that's the default for Balanced for both HDs and Displays. Don't remember for sure though.

That didn't fix it but that's weird. I'm gonna plug it into a different slot on my mobo and see how that works.

Make sure there's no power saving options in your BIOS on restart?

I replaced the Sata cable and moved the sata cable into a different port. Works fine now.

Also, before it was taking me 3-4 min to boot off of an SSD, now its back to 30 sec.

I think somehow it was trying to boot to the bad SSD first, even though it didn't even show up in the BIOS.

All good now, thanks for the help.

Glad you found the solution! I'm thinking that setting being changed will help going forward, but you found the major issue.
