If you don't think Houston being out is a major injury you're not paying attention...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Houston out was likely factored into the initial spread. Hali too for that matter.

We can't show up today doing the same thing in the the same way and just hope we want it more. We need to be creative.

**** this 1 deep man bull$3it and just double D. Thomas and remove him. Take him right the **** out of the game. Force 5head to lob wobbles short to Welker where Berry and the LB's can drill him and make him pay.

Force him to rely on a TE that can't block...

True. However, don't discount the effects the frigid temps had on 5head. I think it played a major factor in helping the Pats defensive scheme.

I don't think it was the cold (which we'll have) I think the Pats were willing to trade big plays for DPI calls.

The Pats ****ing mugged them.

But how do you call holding/PI on a clear pick play?

You don't, you let it go...

I'd be in for that trade off as well... They need to call the Den O-Line for choke holds / holding to keep it balanced.

Sort of how the Pistons back in the day just beat the ever living shit out of everyone, eventually they just forced the refs to allow it to a degree because otherwise you whistle every play.

I'd agree- go ahead and be overwhelmingly aggressive, you may pick up a 5 yard flag or 2 but after a few of them the ref is going to give you a lot more of a marginal leeway simply because if they flag the same guy 2-3 times or the defense 3-4 they are going to hear the crowd and don't underestimate the human factor of being a ref.
Think about it, don't you think you start being a bit more prudent throwing another flag if you've already thrown a few in just the first half and start to waver on doing it again. There is that built in sense of figuring you on average throw a flag x # of times a game, and it's normal reactive instinct to start being adverse to throwing many more because it breaks your own norm of where you think the game is properly officiated and where you start to feel like you have become too large a factor in the games outcome if you simply keep calling penalty after penalty.
