Why aren't the Chiefs selling more Season Tickets?

Have they just become to expensive? Reason I am asking is that I received this email from the Chiefs today for season tickets and I thought they had a 20-yr waiting list.

Quote:

Deposits to buy new 2006 season tickets are coming in fast! And for the first time in years, the Chiefs have season ticket inventory to sell! With your deposit, you are guaranteed 2006 season tickets, and also guaranteed playoff tickets for THIS SEASON at Arrowhead (as long as we qualify)! This window could close very soon to purchase season tickets, so we hope you take advantage soon! The following are some key benefits to purchasing Kansas City Chiefs season tickets:

* Opportunity to renew your same seats for future seasons.
* Opportunity to participate in the “Chiefs Annual Seat Relocation Program” (upgrade and/or move your seats). This takes place in March and April of 2006.
* Opportunity to purchase your same seats for home playoff games.
* Priority opportunity to purchase tickets for other Arrowhead special events.
* Opportunity to participate in the Chiefs Super Bowl ticket lottery drawing available to all season ticket holders when the Chiefs qualify.
* AND MANY MORE!

Ticket prices for the 2006 season have not been announced. They will be announced in late December, 2005. This season, season ticket prices in the upper reserved section were $590 per seat (10 game home schedule). To reserve your seats, a $100.00 deposit is due per seat. For example, if you wish to purchase 2 seats for the 2006 season, a $200.00 deposit is due. This money will be credited toward your 2006 season ticket balance. Once the deposit is processed, you will receive an account number, verbal and print verification from the Kansas City Chiefs, and a pin number to look up your account online. Your account can be paid off in (4) installments between January-June of 2006. The Kansas City Chiefs will invoice you accordingly. We will place your initial seats as close as possible to the general area you wish to sit. Please indicate the general area you wish to sit on your order form if you are faxing or mailing in your order form (i.e. Chiefs side, visitors side, corners, end zones). I have attached an order form to fill out. However, you are encouraged to call me to place your order over the phone. This will give you the opportunity to ask any unanswered questions.

Many new buyers have inquired about purchasing Upper Box, Field Box and/or Club Level seats. **These seats are rarely available for new buyers; however, there is an opportunity to purchase these seats via the VIP Tailgate. If interested in this club, please review the benefits below:

VIP Tailgate Tent (located next to Gate F at Arrowhead Stadium)

* All inclusive silver platter buffet featuring traditional and gourmet items.
* Open bar stocked with specialty drinks, beer and soda.
* Convenient private restroom facilities.
* Special entertainment including live bands, big screen televisions and appearances by the Chiefs Cheerleaders, KC Wolf (mascot) and former Kansas City Chiefs players.
* Option to purchase reserved parking.
* Give away items for every guest at each game.
* Themed each game to provide your guest with a unique experience.

$605.00 Annual Membership Fee per person (subject to change for the 2006 season) plus ticket prices

**The VIP Tailgate Tent inventory is subject to a waiting list for these premium Arrowhead Stadium seats and accessibility to this club.

Thank you so much for your consideration and support!

Sincerely,

Jon

There hasn't been a waiting list for at least three years,being in the marketing business myself I will give them major props though as they've done a helluva job selling the idea that it still exists.

If a waiting list developed, Carl would raise the prices until it vanished. It's his job.

This is for next year though.

I am curious why the waiting list dryed up. Is Skip right that they are just more expensive now or is it that people like to watch on TV now.

Here's my take.

Quote:

Creating urgency,this is a once in a forever chance.

Guranteed is always a great word.

But shouldn't we be asking if there is/was a waiting list and '06 is the first time in years then how in the hell can they gurantee play-off tickets for '05?

Quote:

Again urgency.

What we don't see is the fine print,send $200 now to reserve 2 seats and even if the team doesn't make the post-season and you decide not to follow through with '06 seats you do not get a refund.

Sorry to sound so negative,it's just my 2 cents.

I would rather spend 40bucks at home with beer and food with my buds then go to the game and spend 300-500 dollars... I miss the crowd, but the prices are outrageous for my pay...

The new owner of the A's wants a new ballpark, which is not strange for a new owner in an old ballpark. What is strange, is he only wants a seating capacity of about 32K. Why? Just as you say, they want URGENCY to be perceived as real, and therefore create the shortage of quality seats to the average fan. Fear of missing out will force fence sitters to commit to season tickets a lot earlier than they otherwise would. It is absolutely the opposite at the Coliseum now, the fans have the A's over the barrel, knowing that the 50K seating capacity will rarely if ever sell out and therefore have the luxury of waiting until an hour before game time to decide if they want to go to games, and many times saying, f it, I have something better to do. The reverse effect of urgency is a sense of complacency, that the A's cannot overcome in their current venue. This is so bad, that with a contending team, they have 2 dollar view level seats, dollar hot dog Wednesdays, just to get the fans to the park.

Face it, the window is closing on King Carl's 5 year super bowl plan. Missouri is the show me state, and it is high time that the Chiefs showed you ticket holders something.

Club level sucks. Seriously, if you sit there, don't plan on standing up. Or if you do stand a lot, expect to get bitched at.

I had a friend who bought some season tickets, and he asked about a parking pass. THey said "There isn't even a waiting list for those." They don't sell em anymore.

yep ... well at least part of his job

the GM part comes in a distant second... that's why from a fan perspective have a GM/VPres/CEO combination is a bad thing. A major conflict of interest.

GM = win games

VPres = make money

CEO = Bottomline/maintain image/consistency blah,blah,blah
