Least Deserving Hall of Famers: Minnesota Vikings

VOTE FOR THREE.

With all of the talk about undeserving people in the Hall of Fame, I thought it might be interesting to identify the absolute least deserving people in the Hall of Fame.

I'll do this first for players, identifying the least deserving players by team, and then we'll do a heat or two for non-players.

Poll coming in less time than it takes for John Randle to irritate you.

You can read profiles of the players here, in a very unfriendly format on the HoF site: https://www.profootballhof.com/heroe...me/franchises/

Rules note: If a team has less than 10 HoFers, I'll combine them with another team to get to that number.

All in all, I find this to be a very deserving list.

Alan Page was once an NFL MVP as a defensive tackle. That alone is worth an HoF spot. And estimates are that he had 150 to 170 sacks as a defensive tackle. That too is worth an HoF spot.

Carl Eller was clearly one of the top DEs of his era. He was no Alan Page, but he was really good. He's believed to have more than 130 sacks.

Chris Doleman is a bit of a one-trick pony as a pass rusher, but he still got 150 of them. Can't argue with results.

Cris Carter had a ton of catches and touchdowns. Great hands.

Fran Tarkenton was one of the top 2-3 QBs of his era, and retired with a lot of important passing records.

Gary Zimmerman was all right. He was a legit two-time all-pro with the Vikings and got one by cheating with the Broncos.

John Randle is another Viking sack machine, with 137.5 as a defensive tackle.

Mick Tingelhoff. Hmm, he made 5 all-pro teams, but at his height, the Chiefs targeted him specifically in SB IV and abused him with Buck Buchanan. He's probably deserving, but he's on my list to vote against.

Paul Krause - He had me at 81 interceptions.

Randall McDaniel - 12 pro bowls. He's no Will Shields, but if you can't have Will Shields he's a pretty good second choice.

Randy Moss - Jerk or not, I watched him play. He's in.

Ron Yary - 6 all-pros and 7 pro bowls. Generally regarded as one of the very top offensive tackles of his era.

If I have to vote against three, I'll vote against:

1. Mick Tingelhoff. He couldn't handle Buck Buchanan and Curley Culp when it counted.

2. Gary Zimmerman. Probably deserves it, but is borderline.

3. Chris Doleman. Definitely deserves to be in, but I needed a third guy and he's the lowest on my rankings.

The Vikings back up my theory that if a team doesn't win the Super Bowl, their players have to be stellar to get HoF consideration.

Eller, Page, Carter, Randle and Tark are no-brainers. Some of the best I ever saw play. We held our breath until seconds before the final whistle in SB IV. That said, Tingelhoff, Zimmerman, and Moss, just because he's a cancer.
