Big Bang Theory: Main actors agree to $1 million per episode...

Not bad work if you can get it...

It's $1 million each for the actors per episode. The advertisers must pay ridiculous amounts to sell their products.

Switch "appeal to authority" with "appeal to the people". In terms of fallacies, they are essentially synonymous.
Yeah, well you used authority not "the people" at first. When it comes to entertainment you had better appeal to the people or you go out of business. Something like that is not about argument theory it's about market preferences. Those who tap in to such things and hit the sweet-spot make millions. That's considered success.

They both pertain to the same type of fallacy. Either way, it's fallacious reasoning to say that The Big Bang Theory is quality television because a lot of people watch it.

Yeah, she really blossomed after that show she was on with Joey Lawrence ended. What was the name of that show again?

No I have to look it up because I not a fan of hers but have seen her sing a few times. I remember this one. I think Streisand can sing too but I don't care for that kind of music either....but she can sing.

It's irrelevant. Quality is a subjective term and a matter of opinion. I don't know who claimed it was "quality" but said they liked it and found it funny. I said it was successful which it is or the dough wouldn't be coming in. Entertainment is an art form.

Did someone put up a bat signal?

I'm pondering a tournament to see which two popular TV shows draw the most opposite audience. If I did that, would it be better to ...

... stick only within one genre (e.g., sitcom), or cross genres (sitcoms, dramas, reality, etc.)

...stick only with active shows, or include prominent shows that are in syndication

...stick only to network television, or go across the spectrum

I would lean toward sticking to network television just to avoid the corruption of some people not having HBO or Skinemax or whatever. I think that's a pretty solid recommendation. On the genre and timing, I could go either way, but I think it would be fun to compare sitcoms on a direct comparison basis and also include prominent sitcoms that are in syndication. You want shows that everyone has seen or could see.

Thoughts?

I don't think she was part of the cast in that interview. She came later. But that is neuro-science not theoretical physics. Now don't forget even Sheldon considers that more difficult.

I'll see if I can find the interview.

You guys praising Jim Parsons' acting might want to see Parsons act in literally anything else.

The simple reason I don't like it is because I don't think it's very good. None of your generalizations really apply to me. I just tend to prefer humor that's a little less generic, a little less safe, a little less CBS. In the end, just because the main characters are "intelligent" doesn't mean the same is true of the show itself or the comedy that makes it up. Personally I'd much rather watch something like Community. Much smarter, much funnier, and a much better cast.
