Big Bang Theory: Main actors agree to $1 million per episode...

Not bad work if you can get it...

It's $1 million each for the actors per episode. The advertisers must pay ridiculous amounts to sell their products.

Textbook appeal fallacy. You assume that because it has high ratings, it is therefore well liked and popular. This doesn't discredit the notion that while a lot of people do enjoy it, a lot of people also think it's terrible and unfunny.
That's still not saying "quality television because a lot of people watch it." You changed my argument and it was not a paraphrase either. That's called a strawman argument. Believe, I know what a logical fallacy is but what you used is inapplicable generally to what was being said by me and others. You using the moral high ground fallacy, red herring, moving goalposts and most of all fallacy of irrelevant purpose.

Not all generalizations are strawmen. What I posted wasn't a strawman argument. You said the show has high ratings for a reason, because it's well liked and popular. Essentially, that's labeling quality (well liked and popular) with a lot of people (high ratings).

A strawman is not a generalization. It's restating what was said in order to erect a different argument, one not made, because it's easier to take down than what was said.

As for the rest, you fail to discern what was stated as opinion and market preferences reflected in ratings and monetary success. Those are facts related to marketing. You added in the word "quality" something not mentioned, and immaterial since quality is a subjective word.

Do the actors on Modern Family get paid a million per episode? If not they should.

Your wording was "well liked and popular". Merriam-Webster defines "quality" as
Quote:
the standard of something as measured against other things of a similar kind; the degree of excellence of something.
Moreover, you said "high ratings". I'm assuming by high ratings, you were referring to how many people watch it. Therefore, me saying "a lot of people watch it" is damned near synonymous with you saying "high ratings". It wasn't a strawman because my post didn't mislead nor did it represent the quote as anything different. You're grasping at straws.

I should not be surprised to see that Community, which tackles nerd culture with a much bigger heart than does BBT (but does more than just that), and which is arguably the most formally adventurous television comedy of all time, is being called unsuccessful & implicitly-not-good in a thread that's going the way this one is going.

Facts: High Ratings means a lot of viewers=popular

Entertainment TV Jan 2013

Big Bang Theory' delivers best ratings ever: Will it topple 'Idol'?

ig Bang Theory has done it again.

The CBS comedy delivered series-high ratings across the board Thursday night for its episode that featured the cast riffing on Star Trek: The Next Generation. We’re taking 19.8 million viewers and a dizzying 6.3 adult demo rating at 8 p.m. Big Bang Theory out-delivered Fox’s American Idol a few times in the demo last season. Could the hit comedy topple TV’s long-running top-rated series outright to rank No. 1 for the season? It’s possible given Idol‘s ratings trajectory in recent years and Big Bang‘s surging. Id
