Does Alex Smith deserve a extension after this season?

Does he deserve a extension to be our QB long term or do we take a chance on somebody else.

Well, there is no rush to do this. But since he is Andy's pic to run the show, he will get it.

I've been pleased with Alex's play this year. I was not an Alex supporter, but wasn't totally against it. I didn't think 2 # 2's was the ticket so he has to earn my trust and keep, he is on his way of doing this.

I felt all along he would get better once the offense and he was on the same the same page. The last 5 games is a vast improvement.

Alex has never been a bad QB, he has just played on bad teams or poorly coached teams until Harbaugh. I have always said that Alex can play QB well ( not great ) but you have to have several playmakers around him. Naturally, this is the goal of every GM

As long as Alex is our QB, we must have elite talent around him. It is what it is.

Well, I was a die hard 49er fan driven off and turned off by Alex Smith haters who didn't appreciate what they had. I was told to leave because Kaepernick was the true franchise qb. So, when he left, I came here.

Well, that's NOT why you hate me, and attack me. I have never BASHED you for your opinion of Alex Smith. you have bashed me, for LIKING alex smith.

You are free to feel however you want.
I know my cousins who grew up in NorCal and 9ers "true fans" were telling me when we got off to a hot start to the season and discussing AS that there was a lot of vitriol and bagging on the guy that was way more unwarranted along with a very vocal group ready to immediately suck Kaepernick off. Though a lot of them really liked Alex and rooted for his improved play probably in part because he is a good guy and they followed that team when it struggled and we're excited to see Smith and the whole team turn the corner and really start winning.

This always makes me laugh. You have ONE elite player on your offense. That's it.

Andy knows it. You know it, I know it. It should be apparent to everyone who watched Bowe on that streak route with 5'10 phillip adams on him, and a perfectly thrown ball that BOWE NEVER FOUGHT FOR, should know it to.

It is Jamaal. And that is it.

But yes, Avery, Hemmingway, Bowe, Aj Jenkins who was used as a running back today.

ELITE TALENT, MUST ADD MOAR.

You were pretty adamant about how shitty Smith is, so I'm sure you've got your options covered in terms of which QB is going to provide the team with a substantial upgrade at the position. Let's hear them. C'mon man, don't be a pussy.
Well Sackoshit, I kind of wanted Geno LIKE YOU DID, especially after he fell into the 2nd round. I was kind of hoping the Chiefs would put something together and move up and get him when that happened. Having AS and Geno on the team would not have hurt me one bit. Geno first overall however, was a much tougher pill to swallow, but in the 2nd round hell yes.

I can appreciate most of your post there, but ELITE is too strong. He just needs decent talent around him.

So, the team stands 11-3, tied with the best record in the NFL and has clinched a playoff berth with two games remaining in the season.

What elite talent do we have surrounding Smith that has led the team to this record? (Now, I would hate to bring up the oft-stated opinion that the QB is the most important position on the field and determines the overall success of the team more often than not, but...)

Charles is elite. Other than that, who do we have?

Bowe used to be pretty good, too. I still would love to see his numbers if he had played with Brees, or Manning or a high TD guy. Bowe made a pretty solid name for himself in the dark days (before you were a Chiefs fan) when we had Cassel and the like.

Can I finally add this thread blows as everyone is at each others throats when we just scored more points than any other team in the league this year on the road with some awesome performances to secure a playoff spot.

All you assholes should be way happier!

Sounds about right.

I find it absolutely hilarious, that the FRANCHISE QB, is going to finish behind every statistical qb stat behind alex smith.

He will have a lower comp percentage, rating, yards, tds.

That is OUTSTANDING TO ME, despite having Boldin a great oline, and Vernon davis, and gore for the majority of the season.

That makes me laugh.

umm ... the talent around Alex Smith is not even close to elite right now.

no real #1 WR
no real #1 TE
due to injury - starting a street FA at TE in a scheme that relies on the TE's
youngest Oline in the NFL
WR having a bad case of the dropsies most of the year
1st year scheme
1st year coaching staff

Jamaal Charles is the only thing Elite around Alex Smith right now and we are winning.

I still think that Bowe can be elite. But, I think that is what is being overlooked, as I pointed out about that streak route, is sometimes, bowe has to help himself.

I can think of three such examples.

One, the streak today.

Two, against the Giants I believe they were running the same pick play that the Broncos run, where Bowe was cutting under Fasano, and Bowe made no effort to beat the corner to the inside, and instead of fighting for position, it was an easy pick, and in the Broncos game there, he had his man beat, alex threw a perfect all, and Bowe instead of using his body to shield, let the defender over his back to knock the ball away.

That's stuff that BOWE has to do better, that bowe USED to do.

I'm not talking about the 2013 draft. Past is the past.

We're talking about the 2014 Draft and Free Agency.

Who's your boy?

Who's the guy that will rid this team of Smith and his mediocrity?
