This thread reminded me of a story about the young Indian boy who asked his father how they picked names for their children.
"Red Elk, my father, how did you pick my name?" "Our tribe lets the earth and nature pick the names for us. When your sister was born a white dove flew overhead, so we named her White Bird. Why do you ask Two Dogs Humping?" (Before you say it i am also part Indian ) Funniest name I ever saw was Luke Warmwater...from Jay OK |

From 1989-1994 I used to take incoming ticket reservations at the science museum in Boston. Customers had some interesting names. I took reservations for some bad alliterations (Steven Creaven and Shirley Curley). I got a Lauren Bacall (not THE Lauren Bacall, though). I got an Ann Thome (say it as one).
But my favorite was.... Zoltan Dorko. But there's more to it. A year later, I got another call. "I need to reserve tickets." "Sure. Name?" "Zoltan Dorko." :::clacking keys::: "Oh, okay, I remember you, I talked to you last year, you live on Smith Street in Boston, right?" "No, I live on Jones Street in Worcester." "Did you move?" "No." ::: pause ::: "Wait... you mean to tell me there are TWO Zoltan Dorkos walking around Massachussetts?!? Wow, what would happen if you guys ever meet? Would the world start turning backwards or something?" |

Went to the Missouri Scholars Academy (think summer camp for nerds at Mizzou) before my junior year of high school. They'd post lists of names for who was supposed to be going to what activity and such. Kept seeing this name that I initially assumed was a typo. Turns out it wasn't. Ry4an Brase. Didn't really know him that well, but I did ask him about the name. The story he gave was that supposedly his parents were not trusting of technology and having a number in his name meant he couldn't be graded on standardized tests and the like since the bubbles you shade for your name didn't have numbers. I've always assumed that wasn't true, but who knows.

I know a girl named Misty Dawn and a girl (given name) named Bambi. Our post office dude's name is Preston Surface. Friends named their daughter Ida Clare (true fact). We have a grandniece named Aylah pronounced Ah-leah. Stupid spellings of real names are the worst.
