So pass on GS and invest 2 picks in a less QB. Gotcha.

Then the "there always next year".

We club baby seals.

Interesting tidbit from Dan Pompei on Geno Smith, not sure if posted:

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/...litz-2131.html

Quote:
Some in the NFL community are predicting the draft stock of West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith will drop between now and April as teams learn more and more about how Smith is wired. Smith has the physical ability to be a first round pick, but NFL teams are wondering if he has the complete package. “He needs to have a strong interview,” one front office man said. “And I don’t think he will.”

What makes him think that? If anything, its the thing I think he is going to be the strongest at. Every time I have heard the kid talk he has sounded determined, intelligent, and humble.

Okay, so I've only watched the Geno highlight reels, didn't catch the games in real time. All of the complaints that people lodge about the kid just aren't on the screen. You can clearly see him scan the field when his first option isn't open. He fits the ball into tight windows, is clearly accurate, hits his guys in stride, throws with touch and can drill it when need be. He moves well in the pocket, he appears to 'feel' pressure and slide away from it...I understand it's a highlight reel, but the kid threw for 70% and what, 42 TD's with 6 INT's? His stats in his 'bad' games are still pretty respectable.

If Reid and Dorsey don't think he's the guy, then okay. However, the things the Geno haters are saying just aren't true. You can watch him do the things they say he can't, over and over.

To me, the accuracy is most impressive.

Last year at this time, when folks were talking up RG3, I watched HIS highlight reels as I don't watch that much college ball and hadn't seen him either. I saw a great athlete with a nice arm, but I saw a lot of shorter passes and very few "holy shit, looka that!" throws. I didn't think his game would translate to the NFL. I didn't think Newton's would either, so I guess I'm 0 for 2 the last two years.

But when you look at, say, Luck's highlight reel from his senior year and Geno's...I mean, I see a lot of the same things. Maybe more deep throws from Smith, honestly. More roll-outs and throws on the run from Luck. Similar accuracy.

I don't know if Smith is Aaron Rodgers. I DO know that he looks much more polished than Gabbert did, or Tannehill. If those guys are top ten picks, I don't get what's wrong with Geno.

Newton sucks...he had 6 good games his rookie year and completely sucked this year. RGIII was an amazing prospect because of his intelligence on top of his intangibles. It's a shame he's rotting in Wash with a coach who's gonna run him till the wheels fall off.

I would slow down on the Luck to Geno comparisons. Luck is a once in a generation type prospect. Geno is a guy who would normally go in the late teens/early 20's if this was a decent draft class at the top.

Geno is good, but not you know this guy is gonna be elite and you're willing to risk the next 4 or 5 years trying to develop the guy.
I think a lot of it boils down to how short the leash on Reid is.

I know, but WHY? What I'm saying is that a big part of the 'can't miss' label on Luck was his pedigree, right? Dad was a NFL QB and coach or whatever, smart kid, played at Stanford for Harbaugh in a pro style offense, etc. When you watch him play, there's certainly nothing that looks lacking.
What I'm saying is this: The things the Geno naysayers are saying ARE NOT THERE ON THE SCREEN. I don't know what they're talking about. I watch him clearly go through his reads, he doesn't turn the ball over, he's smooth in the pocket under pressure. The so-called negatives are NOT there. Stat-wise, he's right up there with Luck's senior season. If someone's got some real issues with the kid, I'd be interested. What I'm hearing is a bunch of crap though based on watching this game video. By all accounts, he's a hard worker, a student of the game, etc. He's played well in a pro style offense AND a spread.
I keep hearing that he's NOT worth the #1, but the reasons people give are NOT ON THE VIDEO.

So, tell me, where would you have put Geno in terms of getting drafted in the last, say, eight years of the draft? Since 2006 to this draft, the 2013, where would you put Geno?

The Herm and Pioli years.

If they can move down a few spots and pick up an extra 2nd along the way, they should do it. More bullets in the gun, means better chance of hitting.

If peoples are dead set on Geno, you almost have to worry that the Raiders will invest the #3 on him. Personally I don't see the Jags completely giving up on Gabby Gabs...he is the 3rd youngest QB in the NFL IIRC. What are your thoughts on Manti Te'o?

Would the Raiders take Geno Smith as a shout out to Al Davis? I want no part of 5. He was exposed in the title game.

Anybody have any thoughts on Warmak? He's the consensus #1 player in the draft. Obviously not at 1, but Reid loves his fat boys and he would look good pulling for Charles.

He's a guard...for as nice a guard prospect as he is, he's still a guard which is probably the least valuable starting position on a team. Guards get drafted in mid rounds some team will take him first but it's basically a value waste in a lot of ways.

For every Ben Grubbs there's a Carl Nicks or Jahri Evans who are just as good if not better that were taken several rounds later.
