USA Today predicts Chiefs at 4-12 for 2014

I could see it happening but really 6-8 wins seems pretty doable.

AFC West

Broncos 12-4 (2): Could be better than 2013 team even if wins and offensive output dip. But schedule is murderous.

Chargers 8-8: Last year's schedule allowed late-season charge. This year's could easily produce late-season slide.

Chiefs 4-12: Tight salary cap meant crippling free agent defections, and they didn't sufficiently reload in draft.

Raiders 3-13: Best thing influx of over-the-hill vets can do is change culture. Carr, Mack promise brighter days ahead.

I dont believe I was talking to you. Ill answer your question though - I would have matched Schwartz and Dex. Both are not cap killers by any means. If I could have only kept 1, it would have been Schwartz. He played himself into a starters role and made those around him better. Id have kept a good player that provided stability at his position, especially when there were certain to be other big changes on the OL.

How's the perch from the fence?

There is no point to your question. It's not about one player, it's about us losing talent and not adding it.

6 starters out, 1 starter and some scrubs in

coach'em up Marty!!

Thomas > Mccluster
Abdullah > Lewis
Walker > Jackson

Losing the offensive linemen hurts, but it's possible we don't get much dropoff if the replacements can play at expected levels.

It's funny that almost every one thought all those guys sucked until they left

You see 8 million Albert is injury prone and overrated comments, Dex sucks, T jack can't rush the passer. Now we can't win a game without them...Ohhhhhhkkkaaaay

I said from day 1 Id have kept Dex and Schwartz. I would have let Fat Albet, TJ, and AsamanIsucka walk.

It would have been easier to win by keeping the good one's from that group.

Dex has been replaced nicely. Would liked to have kept Schwartz though especially if Linkensuck sees the field. Albert needed to go the moment they drafted Fisher. Still passes me off just how awful of a waste of 1-1 it was.

I would have tried to keep Schwartz. DAT should replace Dex. Albert was gone when we drafted Fisher. Lewis was garbage, Abdullah was a better player last year. ATL overpaid for Asamoah and Jackson, so I wouldn't have matched those deals. Akeem Jordan really wasn't on the field that much, he was ok but hardly irreplaceable. Our defense should be better this year without Lewis and having a third pass rusher. Our o line depth is concerning due to inexperience. I think the team will be about the same overall, but the schedule appears to be tougher (but that can change). Hopefully continuity (something we haven't had in a while) will help offset the schedule. I would guess 9-7 or 10-6.

I'm pretty confident about one of those (Walker).

We have absolutely no idea how Thomas will translate to the NFL. And we can say hopeful things about Abdullah, but I'm going to need to see him play starters snaps and play consistently well before I believe that's a huge upgrade. I know he sat out a year and all that, but the fact he didn't supplant Lewis last year is going to bother me until I see him prove otherwise.

I'm not a McCluster fan, but it seems like people are pinning awfully high hopes on DeAnthony Thomas. I'm excited about his potential, too, but he's no guarantee to step in Day 1 and produce out of the slot. Undersized guys sometimes take a while to figure out their game in the NFL (McCluster did, for sure). Thomas is a tiny RB with good but not great speed who is transitioning to WR full-time. Expecting him to step in right away and be a receiving weapon is ambitious, IMO.

And I get what you're saying about the schedule earlier in the thread... but the good teams on the schedule are not great bets to get tremendously worse.

Seattle. Defending Super Bowl champs - young team that basically lost no talent. Even an injury to Wilson would probably not sink this ship.

49ers. Elite defensive team with dynamic playmaker at QB.

Broncos. Unless Peyton Manning is injured, they're going to be an elite team again. They've improved defensively and still have more than enough offensive weapons.

Patriots. As long as Brady is on the field, this is an elite team. Again, hoping for injury to do them in. I expect them to improve this year, with a year of experience for their offensive weapons.

Beyond that... the Chargers swept KC last year and it's hard to see a complete reversal of that. @Buffalo and @Miami are a couple of tough road games. The Steelers are a candidate to bounce back. Arizona and St. Louis both have excellent defenses and the look of improving young teams.

It's possible we look back at the end of the 2014 season and say the schedule wasn't as tough as we thought. But it's just as likely to look back and say it was actually HARDER, IMO.

I hope you're right. 10-6 would be my high end estimate, based on the way the schedule shakes out right now.

How can any football fan say we downgraded on some of these guys?

Tyson Jackson: 4 sacks, 0 QB hits, 8 hurries and 23 stops
Vance Walker: 3 sacks, 6 QB hits, 32 hurries and 24 stops

How the hell is that NOT an upgrade? Imagine what this guy can do next to Poe?

DMC? Seriously? Toub had multiple returners in Chicago do a nice job. Last year Knile Davis had 3 returns for TD's, 1 in the regular season. Demps was top 10 in return average.

This may come as a shock to many posters, but some teams actually improved at several positions in the off season AND had a draft with more selections and better ones than the Chiefs.

I don't think you'll find anyone who disagrees with Jackson being a nice upgrade to the pass rush from that position. He's a little step down against the run, but probably is ultimately no worse than a wash.

As for McCluster... if they had brought in another legitimate receiver, I don't think anyone would mention the WR spot... but the Chiefs were already weak at WR (below average WR1 and WR2 in Bowe and Avery), lost their third leading receiver from a year ago, and the replacement options are internal guys lke AJ Jenkins (who has physical skill but also has had issues every other aspect of the NFL) or limited upside guys (Hemmingway) or complete unknowns (Dressler, the converting-to-WR D'Anthony Thomas).

It KC had just brought in some proven outside talent (by drafting a good WR or signing a FA), I doubt anyone would look at that as a negative.

Yes. Though I think he would have been WR2 and bumped Avery down to WR3 (which is even better since it improves you at 2 spots).
