You just don't get it.

Sure, he has to look for throws beyond the first down marker on 3rd down.
But he has to look for, and be willing to stretch the defense on any down and distance.

Who are you talking to? You aren't talking to me clearly. Alex doesn't have a problem throwing and stretching the field when the defense isn't expecting it, or they are expecting run. His biggest problem the past two years has been 3rd down. That's why you have people always bringing up 1/13 on third down.

The past two years he was the most efficient qb on first down. Its when teams know that he has to pass, that he gets into trouble.

The difference for me is I have seen Alex Smith make clutch throws when he has had to. I haven't watched enough of Cassel to know if he could or not. That's the maddening thing about Alex. he can, he just wont.

He isn't willing to stretch the defense unless his receiver is widd the **** open.
He's unwilling to test tight windows.
So he drops it short.

That's how you become the most efficient.

He was pretty damn efficient handing the ball off to Frank Gore too.

He may do a better job of handing the ball off to JC than Cassel did. I've always said Matt Cassel was the best in the league at handing the ball off.

Cassel represents inadequate Kansas City QB play. We're all tired of try-hard nice guys that are limited but gosh darn it they don't care what the critics say because they're gonna keep going out there every Sunday and doing their best!

Alex Smith, if he can not get over his aversion to having to make difficult throws in tough situations, will be an inadequate QB, much in the very same way that Matt Cassel was inadequate.

All Cassel needed was confidence to be good. But a QB should never have to feed off confidence. A QB should GENERATE his own confidence.

That's why I'm predicting a failure for Alex Smith.

I think Alex is confident, but his coaches before Jim just beat the gunslinger out of him. You have to have that swag like he had against the saints all the time. That's what makes aaron Rodgers so special. He will make any throw, at any time.

Don't agree with this at all.

Cassel needed far more than confidence.

He needed talent.
Dumbass couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from 15 yards away.

Smith has the talent.
He lacks confidence.
Success breeds success, and by extension, breeds confidence.

Push the envelope.
Find out what you are actually capable of doing.
