Frustrating Sound Problem

I can't get any sound out of this stupid computer. At first, it said I had no Audio device. I went into Bios and the audio device was disabled. I fixed that. I have the Audio Drivers for The Realtek AC97 And legacy sound Codecs. I have no yellow question marks or exclamation points. I tried reloading the drivers....nothing. Something is wrong and I have no idea what it is or how to find it.

I connected the speakers to my MP3 player and they work fine, so I know it's not that. WTF could it be?

What model computer? Desktop or laptop? If it's a laptop, make sure there isn't a PHYSICAL volume control that is turned down.. I have seen it happen too many times to count.

It's a built computer.

What is a AC 97 cable used for? Don't think I have one? Could that be the issue?

I also have a Sound Blaster sound card. Can't get the thing to work either. The card won't get recognized. Tried switching it to a different PCI slot and that wouldnt work. Tried downloading the drivers but the drivers won't install because it can't detect the card (or so it says).

It's so ****ing irritating knowing I have TWO audio devices yet can't get either to work.

I have these pink and green Front panel audio cables that are pre wired into the case. They aren't connected to anything. Could that also be a problem?

It's an MSI mainboard BTW.

Is there suppose to be some sort of AC 97 cable that connects from the main board to the back of the onboard sound device?

No, there shouldn't. One from your CD\DVD\BR yes, but is optional.

Do you have the SB card in the case ATM? If you do you should have the on board audio selected off in the BIOS. I would pull the sb card. Reboot into bios and turn off the on board audio. Save changes and let the system completely reboot. Shut down and put the card back in and see if Windows finds it and reloads the drivers.

I'll try that. I just pulled the SB card.

I also found this:

I had this same problem, so this will probably work for you as well.

"If your case has Mic-In and Headphones-Out ports on the front panel, ensure they are correctly connected to your mobo. If your case doesn't, then you need to make sure to jumper the Speaker Out L/R and Speaker Out L/R Return pins (these pins position can vary by mobo, so check your manual), otherwise the sound card can't create a proper circuit.

Let me know if that fixes the problem."

I wonder if that is the issue? If so...Not sure how to do what he is saying...

Or pull the card and leave the on board setting to on in BIOS and see if it works that way. The SB could be causing conflicts with your on board audio.

The thing is, there is nowhere for me to connect those cables to my Motherboard. They are two 8mm jacks. They kinda just dangle there.

It's weird. Why would there be a mic and a headphone jack INSIDE my case?
