SceneItAll Tournament: Round 3, Heat 8

Changing things up a little in Round 3. I will present five scenes, and you will pick your TWO favorite scenes. The top two vote-getters will advance to Round 4, and others will have a chance at a wildcard spot.

These are all solid scenes, but my votes were easy:

#1 - Close Encounters of the Third Kind. This is a great scene and very clever. You have to watch this whole scene once you start. Plus, putting it in the Devil's Tower was cool.

#2 - Raiders of the Lost Ark. Second per second, this might be the best scene ever. I only knock it to #2 because the enjoyment happens so fast.

#3 - Rocky. That looks like quite the fight. But it lacks the grandeur and/or humor of the top two.

#4 - Braveheart. I like the sly smurf homage.

#5 - Return of the Jedi. It's a fine scene, but the fight part is way too long. And shouldn't one of them just pull out a blaster and shoot the other one? That's what Han Solo would do.

Maybe in an intergalactic phone booth, but not in an open arena. If that was the case, then Darth wouldn't have had to throw his saber at the 1:47 mark. He was crying out for a ranged weapon.

The Raiders scene gets too much credit. I'd take Braveheart all day over it.

I am surprised that the close encounters scene is not doing better. I think it's really fun and creative. On the other hand, I'm surprised that the Jedi scene is doing so well. It's okay, but it doesn't seem like it's groundbreaking in any way. Just another fight scene.

Well, it does have going for it that it is the climax of the entire Star Wars series, which is one of the most beloved movie sagas of all time. So there's that.

A light saber can stop the laser thingy that shoots from a blaster.
You've never seen any of the Star Wars movies, have you?

Yeah, if you want to count that.

I didn't actually know that. I thought it was just one of the 500 light saber fights in that series.
