Major news tonight
http://money.cnn.com/2010/01/26/news...toyota_recall/ Toyota suspends sales of eight models By Blake Ellis, contributing writerJanuary 26, 2010: 7:30 PM ET NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc. said Tuesday it is asking dealers to temporarily suspend sales of eight models. The company's sales suspension is part of a recall announced last week to correct a problem that could cause the accelerator pedal to stick. "Helping ensure the safety of our customers and restoring confidence in Toyota are very important to our company," said Toyota USA group vice president Bob Carter. "This action is necessary until a remedy is finalized." About 2.3 million vehicles will be affected by the recall, Toyota (TM) said Tuesday in a statement. The automaker also said that it will halt the production of vehicles in certain production facilities in Canada, Indiana, Kentucky and Texas during the week of Feb. 1 to "assess and coordinate activities." The vehicles covered under the recall are: 2009-2010 RAV4, Corolla, Matrix, 2005-2010 Avalon, certain 2007-2010 Camry, 2010 Highlander, 2007-2010 Tundra and the 2008-2010 Sequoia. The new recall involving sticking accelerator pedals is separate from an on-going recall of 4.2 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles due to the risk of pedal entrapment because of a loose floormat. About 1.7 million Toyota Division vehicles have been affected by both recalls. Toyota owners with questions should call Toyota's customer service line at 800-331-4331. |

Some of these cars have 24V V6 engines that are pushing 250hp, you really think if you're already going 60 mph and the vehicle starts going WOT you're going to overpower it with your brakes and get it stopped before they overheat? It's not going to happen. |

Will it warp the rotors, yes, but it will stop the vehicle.

These stories seem to telling the opposite. And I don't see how you can say that for sure anyway, have you ever tried stopping a car going 60+ mph at WOT with your brakes? All I'm saying is if the brake fluid overheats, you're done, and it doesn't take as long as you may think.

That being said, if your wife drives one of the cars in question, I would go over what to do if if should happen to her. Neutral is your friend.....

It would be interesting to see what percentage of vehicles that Toyota has manufactured that this recall entails. I guess I am a lucky person because no Toyota vehicle I have ever owned has had mechanical problems to the extent of the story shown.
I like the fact that Toyota has recalled and given rebates on the Trucks that rusted the frame....I like that when a recall is made there is only 1/10 th the hassle I have had when I had a recall on my Chrysler and Ford products. mmaddog ******* |

I will say, as an aside, I am very impressed with the direction that Ford has taken. They are slowly but surely climbing back to profitability, the Management seems to have a business plan that makes sense, and they are getting good marks overall on quality of product.
I would love to see an American-based auto maker survive and thrive. Competition is always good for the consumer. mmaddog ******* |

I think the American companies need to trim brands and combine resources, and make very individually-attractive cars that stand out on the road and make a name for themselves (e.g. Toyota Prius). |

i have not read all of this thread, but, there was a Ford Expedition that was coming out of the carwash and claimed that the vehicle was accelerating without reason
here is the result: the red honda was orig. parked infront of the building the same way the cop cars are parked but right in front of the hole |

My Yugo has NEVER had this problem.
Of course it quit running 14 years ago when it surpassed 5476 miles on the odometer. Made it a very safe car that way.
