The 1998 Eagles vs. The 2012 Chiefs

You might find yourself in the majority of Chiefs fans that are hoping and praying the Chiefs find their Quarterback (QB) of the future in this years draft. Since this new regime has taken over the watch, they have done everything possible to shoot down the idea of drafting a QB with the number 1pick in this year’s 2013 draft. Here is why I believe it’s all a smoke screen.

In 1998 the Philadelphia Eagles finished the season 3-13, one of the worst years in franchise history. They started 3 different QBs that year, each with 1 win. They scored a league low 161 total points, with only 7 TD passes from all 3 QBs. Following the 1998 season the Eagles ownership cleaned house, ending Head coach Ray Rhodes 4 year tenure.

The Eagles then went out and hired a quarterbacks coach from the Green Bay Packers by the name of Andy Reid, the local media and fan base didn’t like the hire very much at the time. Reid knew right away that he had a lot of work to do, and his main objective was to find a franchise QB.

On April 17th of 1999, the Philadelphia Eagles selected QB Donovan McNabb from Syracuse University with the overall #2 pick. The rest, as they say is history. Mcnabb went on to become an elite QB for the Eagles for the better part of a decade, leading his team to multiple division titles, conference championships, and eventually an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIX.

Now, lets fast forward to your 2012 Kansas City Chiefs…

The Chiefs finished out this year a lot like the Eagles in 1998. Playing multiple QBs, scoring just over 200 total points and had a terrible time moving the ball through the air. Finishing the season at an embarrassing 2-14. One of the worst years in Franchise history. Following the 2012 season, the Chiefs CEO: Clark Hunt cleaned house, relieving the general manager Scott *****, head coach Romeo Crennel, and nearly all of the coaching staff.

The Kansas City Chiefs immediately hired a proven Head Coach that was fired from the Philadelphia Eagles; Andy Reid. The local media and fan base called it a “home-run hire”. Reid knew right away that he had a lot of work to do, and his main objective was to find a franchise quarterback.

I feel like I’ve heard this story before,

If history serves us correctly, I believe Andy Reid; and John Dorsey WILL draft QB with the overall number 1 pick this April. The kid that I believe can and will be our QB of the future is Geno Smith, out of West Virginia, but that’s for another discussion. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for some home playoff games.

Thanks for reading!
