It’s highly unusual for franchise players to be signed to offer sheets, because teams regard any unused first-round picks as potential Hall of Fame players. Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston could become the exception, for various reasons.

First, he enters the process after completing a 22-sack season. No player with that kind of performance has been available on the heels of it, with or without compensation.

Second, he’s motivated to move on. Per multiple sources, Houston is very upset with the Chiefs. It’s believed that he’ll actively solicit an offer sheet in the hopes the Chiefs won’t match it.

If the Chiefs were going to trade Houston they probably wouldn't get two firsts, but they could likely get what they got for Allen--a first and two thirds.

Maybe a first and third this year and a conditional 3rd that could go up to a 2nd if he gets 13 sacks next year or something wouldn't be terrible.

If he truly does want out, it would be wise to get as much for him as we can.

If Houston is upset, then perhaps he should be mad that his choice to use illegal drugs has cost him several million dollars so far and continues to label him as a risk factor. He's not as big a suspension risk as Suh, but he's got an above-average risk due to the drug use.

I want to keep Houston but a Suh type deal is just stupid even for him.

Dorsey will not give him elite QB money and he shouldn't. Maybe Ford was drafted to replace Houston and not Tamba.

If Ford was drafted as the replacement for Houston, then there's no point in staying with the 3-4 defense.
