Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

I can tell by reading this entire thread that many of you are extremely upset. Truth is, I don't blame you one bit. Alex has been a thorn in the side of Niner fans for years now. He doesn't completely suck, but seems to find a way to screw up at the wrong times.

The past year and a half he has shown nothing but dedication and determination to getting better and keeping his job. The concussion was all it took for JH to pull him. We haven't looked back.

Alex will play fine, but he's definately limited in what he can do. He can NOT throw the ball downfield with any accuracy. He can NOT get through his progressions quickly enough and winds up checking the ball down way too often. His third down percentage and yards/attempt are awful. He will make very inaccurate throws at crucial times and he tends to miss the rbs on his checkdowns.

Alex has definatly gotten better, but I'm glad he's not on the Niners anymore. He was a source of SO MANY message board fights/bans that it became a joke to see when the Alex threads would end.

I see more of the same next year for you guys. I think he will play well enough that he will give you some hope, then just when you start to believe in him, he will stumble. I think this MB will be full of threads arguing whether Alex was the reason you lost, if it was Alex's fault the reciever didn't make the catch, if it was Alex's fault that you can't convert on crucial third-downs.....etc.

It was a never ending issue at our MB. The board was split down the middle about Alex. Half of us couldn't wait to get rid of him, and the other half always defended him. Good luck with that.

Any real football fans here will soon realize that Alex is a stop-gap for your team while Andy finds a full-time replacement. IMO, you are right to question giving up so much for such a mediocre QB. I know many people are saying he is a GREAT player and is an upgrade for you, but personally I like the Chiefs and don't envy you during the upcoming season.

Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I don't think I will be. This message board will implode with the Pro-Alex vs. Anti-Alex threads. You will find many people willing to throw the entire team under the bus to defend him. He is a charismatic, likable guy. He tends to get a LOT of sympathy and support from the most unusual places. It's just too bad he's not a very reliable QB.

Best of luck this year, but I am not surprised so many of you are upset. You should be upset. We got a great deal for a guy we couldn't give away.

I thank the lucky stars that we hired JH. He knows what Alex can do, which is why he's tried so hard to get Kap ready.

I'm not gloating, I'm just relieved.
Thank you and I appreciate your honest opinion.

You know since we gave up a second rounder thrre goes our chance of possibly drafting a qb.

Eagles want to get the #1 draft pick. The only thing that will make it better is if we get foles.

Smith before Harbaugh was awful, but he had like 7 different OCs and head coach's during that time.

Once Harbaugh came in he was consistent and reliable. Does he throw the ball down the field? No. We don't need a gun slinger. We are a running team. Need a game manager.

49er fan here.

I understand you guys are all pissed. You earned the #1 pick of the draft. Your QB situation was abysmal. And you just overpaid for a veteran QB who over the last few years was made to look better than what he probably is.

I will agree with the Niner fan who posted on the previous page. Alex Smith was the most argued about player probably in 49er history. Some people were enamored with him from day 1. The #1 pick. What was supposed to be our franchise QB. Sure he was thrown into a team that had pretty much zero talent and was coached by complete numb skulls. He had his share of injuries as well. But he proved with some stability around him, he can be a good option at QB. He will never be great. And quite honestly unless you guys somehow pull a rabbit out of your hat and end up with a top 10 defense, he will never lead you to the super bowl. But do you honestly think you guys were headed to the SB within the next 3 years anyway? Get real. And this Geno Smith character that has some of you guys duped into thinking he is a franchise player possibly worthy of your #1 pick? That is insane. I feel bad for you guys that you have the #1 pick in such a weak draft year as far as high profile potential elite players go. But trading out of it may not be a bad thing. You might be able to get that second rounder and a few other picks out of it. Who knows. What I do know is that you are not in the worst position in the world. Smith can get you guys at least to respectability. Other than Denver, your division is terrible. And you are one Peyton Manning injury away from being division contenders.

Don't say that Trent Baalke or Jim Harbaugh raped you guys with this deal. Because clearly, you consented and bent over at the same time. We'll take that extra 2nd rounder. The deal surprises 49er fans just as much as it does you guys.

Just give Smith a chance before you jump ship. It won't be as bad as you think.

Why is it that we get a GM that firmly believes in draft and develop, then he goes and trades for a below average QB.

Clark Hunt ****ed our ass with someone else's dick without our consent. That's rape.

The last sentence says everything that ever needs to be said about this trade. When the other team is stunned by the compensation you got, you got royally ****ed.
