In what world is Weaver and Grichuk more than enough for a MVP candidate and a gold glove caliber CF that steals nearly 60 bases a year that just so happen to be in the same division?

That's the biggest homer deal I've ever seen.

In the same world where that MVP candidate has literally zero trade value as nobody has claimed him on waivers for 2 straight seasons.

This isn't hypothetical - teams aren't even putting in waiver claims on him. And Hamilton was a month away from being non-tendered this year. He's had precisely 6 weeks in his career where he's been an offensive asset.

The Reds should just go ahead and cut him now. No one is even putting in waiver claims on a NTC player that the Reds have made no mention of trading and finishes around top 5 in the MVP race on a yearly bases.

Proposed WAR value of the deal is like 4:1 in favor of the Cardinals. Keep dreaming.

And is owed 192 million through his age 42 season. That contract kills his trade value as there are only a handful of teams that could absorb it if they wanted to and to date none of them have wanted to.

If the reds weren't listening or willing to give him to a team that claimed him, they wouldn't bother passing him through.

There's no excess value above the contractual liability and as such there is no trade value.

Who the **** is Grichuk? A nobody.

Who is Luke Weaver? A barely top 100 prospect who gave up 1.7 HR/9 in his first stint in the majors. How many is he going to give up in Cincy?

The Reds have been in talks about Votto. The Blue Jays tried to acquire him before moving on to Tulo. And damn near everyone in baseball is ****ing passed through waivers, why would a team thats rebuilding NOT waive a 33 year old MVP candidate?

Grichuk is a 3 WAR player with 4 years of team control and Weaver is a 4th starter; the kind of guy getting $10 million/season in FA.

There's a ton of excess value in those two.

Billy Hamilton is a 3 WAR player as well.

So if you want to go player for player in a Grichuk for Hamilton deal, fine. If you think a 4th starter is getting you Votto then you are delusional.

If they could get him for something like 12 yrs, $420 million, I think they should take him up on it.

Unless they saw something in his medicals last year that we don't know about. I think he probably messed up that shoulder more than people are letting on and if the freakish natural power he demonstrated in 2015 has evaporated or even diminished, he's not the same animal.

But man, that 2015 season is the best season I've ever seen (non-Bonds division) and to see it from a 22 year old....wow. The guy showed natural ability that even Trout couldn't duplicate at the dish.
